“Best Pizza in Costa Rica”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

And better by far than anything I've had in Montreal, Canada. Go figure. My town is full of Italians. I eat in Little Italy all the time. And I had significantly better pizza in this tiny little (it's actually fairly large) pizza place in the middle of nowhere Costa Rica.

Bring your kids and watch Alida make the pizza dough. She is masterful! And the pizza is sinfully delicious. We went three times while in Costa Rica for a month. Each of our kids loved their pizza and my wife and I shared our two. And you know the place is open when you see a little table with a checkered tablecloth and some wine bottle out by the road. P.S. there is a little place for kids to swing, teeter totter and tarzan swing from a tree rope. We loved the place...and pssst psssst....so do the locals.

“ALIDA'S ITALIAN RESTAURANT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Most people living in Atenas go to Alida's for the pizza, which is quite good. Most nights you can see Alida herself throwing the dough with expertise, in the best Italian style, before she puts on all the sausage and other good things, and pops it into the big brick oven. Few try the other things on the menu. But you should. May I suggest starting with a tuna carapacio and going on to the wonderful homemade shrimp raviolis, accompanied by a glass or two of Pino Grigio? Wine, olive oil and vinegar are Italian.
Alida and her companion are from the Veneto region in Italy, where pasta was invented as a way to eat wheat stored for the winter, and it shows in their menu full of understated natural herb sauces. The Veneto comes to Atenas! Best to call before going, if it is not the week end. 2446-4060 Or, just look for the wine bottles along the road by their gate. When the bottles are there, Alida is ready to serve you.

“Favorite Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

The food at Alida's was wonderful. The owners were incredibly gracious during our two meals at the restaurant. I highly recommend the pepperoni and margherita pizza there. The pizza has a very thin crust so don't order too many toppings. One person can easily eat a whole pizza on their own. The pasta dishes were delicious as well. The pasta with pesto was excellent as was the meat lasagna. Please do yourself a favor and have your next meal in Atenas at Alida's.

“Tasty, but pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

Its pretty safe to say that Costa Rica is not known for it's pizza. None-the-less, there are several pizza places in the small town of Atenas. Alidas is really the best choice for pizza, but it costs a premium. The lovely Italian chef tosses dough right in front of you and bakes the bubbly thin crust pizzas in a wood fire oven. Her husband, a Spaniard, provides friendly and charismatic service. In addition to the pizzas, the pastas are decent, as are the salads. The desserts are delicious. We really enjoy the food there, but for some reason, we are always surprised by how steep the bill is - as such, we don't go very often.

“Very good food but pricey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

We were there for valentines day and it was my third visit. I've gotten pizza every time I've gone and it's very good. It's a very thin and crispy crust. Next time I go I'm going to try the pasta. I have only seen the dogs one time and they were locked up. I'm not worried about it. I've tried to go to this restaurant a few times and they were closed. It's a good idea to call before hand.
