“one of the best B&B in Atenas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2010

my wife and have travelled Costa Rica many times and we really enjoy staying in B&B's that offer a unique experience. For us Orchid Tree was a great find...nestled away amongst the trees and flowers; it offered a relaxing, local ambiance with a large pool!

This was such a sweet spot to spend our nights both on arrival and departure of the country. Rita & Frank welcomed us, went out of their way to make our accommodations as comfortable and convenient as possible. Tasty full breakfast in the lovely open aire dining/living room across the lawn from the topaz pool. We found it all such a warm and inviting place to relax after a travel packed trip and this was one of the better deals for lodging that we experienced! Definitely will return!

If this is true, then Rita and Frank have created a real gem. There is nothing that I could possibly say negative about our stay at Orchid Tree B& B except ...not enough time. From the moment Rita and Frank picked my daughter and I up at the airport it felt more like visiting family. New Years Eve was all of us going out for dinner, they showed us a wonderful waterfall off the tourist map, and the nightly conversations just made our time truly memorable. Starting the day with Rita's wonderful breakfast was too good for words. Orchid Tree is the kind of place that makes you feel comfortable. We would love to make it our home base and spend time exploring the area and nearby Volcanos. Maybe next time.

My wife and I began our Costa Rica adventure with a week at the Orchid Tree. The hosts, Frank and Rita met us at the airport and right away we knew we had picked a great place to start our trip. They were so nice, Frank helped us with our luggage and Rita was a great source of information and gave us some great tips about what to see and about Costa Rican culture and customs.

The B&B has an unusual design with most of it being open to nature. Our room was comfortable, clean and cozy. It was great to have a private washroom too (with hot water shower). We didn't spend too much time in our room as there were so many other places on the property to sit outside--especially by the pool--very clean and most days feeling more like a jacuzzi.

Rita prepared good breakfasts everyday and since we were mostly on our own during the time we stayed there (they had just opened!), our breakfasts were custom made and plentiful.

The location is rural even though it is close to the airport. We decided to try to see many of the attactions of the central valley. We can particularly recommend a trip up Poas volcano and a visit to the La Paz waterfalls, these places are magical. There are many day trips around but be prepared for Costa Rica, the roads are terrible but the scenery is terrific. If you're like us, then you appreciate that life is not a destination, its a journey.

Overall the Orchid Tree is a beautiful B & B with wonderful hosts. One could easily spend a whole vacation based there or use it as a great place to start a trip, being so close to the airport and on the way to the beach (we did one day trip to Jaco Beach).
