“Large, but, nonetheless, splendid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

It is easy to characterize this hotel: beautiful location, breathtaking gorgeous views, perfectly groomed and luscious gardens, very good and plentiful food, excellent service. As far as swimming in the sea is concerned, there are three artificial lagoons which are quite nice, though may be not attgractive for those who prefer wide sandy beaches open to the sea.
The only flaws which I find with this property in related to my disability. I move around in a wheelchair and there are some things which were not perfect in he hotel for me:
1. The door to the bathroom, even in the accessible room, were too narrow. I am quite thin and my wheelchair could only be squezed in and out by force. Perhaps the management should think of having a "house" wheelchair with suitable width which could be borrowed for the length of stay.
2. The door to he balcony was also to narrow. Fortunately, I was capable to transfer across the threshold to a balcony chair and back, but not every disabled person could do that (even though the view from the balcony is really beautiful).
3. There is no place to seat in the shower. The receptionist who checked us in on June 16 at night (unfortunately, I don't remember his name) followed my suggestion and got me a plastic garden chair which served the purpose sufficiently (even much better than a wall-mounted fixed stool although one or two handles/railings would be helpful).
4. The handle/railing by the toilet is much too delicate and should be mounted more solidly, otherwise if it falls off when someone is leaning on it, there may be a serious accident. This requires not just simple tightening of screws (which the maintenance did for me twice, but a major re-mounting.
5. The Thalassa restaurant is completely inaccessible for wheelchair. Perhaps something could be done about that?
Anyway the personnel is quite an asset of this property - always frendly and helpful.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Have just returned from a week at this lovely hotel. It is set in wonderful surroundings with beautiful private coves to lie and relax by with the sea at your feet. Also has very nice pools if you prefer.
The hotel is very clean and the staff very helpful. We had a superior room overlooking the pool and sea, perfect. No noise at night as entertainment finishes at 12.

The food is good, plenty of choice on our all inclusive deal, if there two weeks could be a bit reparative maybe but you would be difficult to please if that was a problem.

Only thing stopping me give it 5 stars is that the beds are very hard and the pillows not suited to us and they don't have a "pillow menu" as at some other hotels we have stayed at. We did get toppers for or bed, from the helpful reception and they helped. In fairness to the hotel we both have back problems so often have difficulties with strange beds.
Once you are there it is a place just to relax in, we only left the complex to go to Panamoro which was a return taxi trip of 14 euros, it is pretty there but a couple of hours is enough.

Although a "complex" as such it really feels like a small little village. Everything is well tended and so clean.
The Ouzo bar just above one of the coves is perfect for drinks, snacks or ice cream and doughnuts. The toilet there is immaculate and being a real fussy person who hates public facilities a real bonus if needed. Paul who runs it is a joy, nothing too much trouble.

All in all a really good hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the beach and pool, we had room 423.

Just got back from creta marine all in. Everything was more than okay! Lovely rooms, excellent food and very nice guys and girls at the animation team. They did a very good job preparing every night a wonderful show, did a lot of activities during the day and they were very friendly. In Belgium we would say: "Ze hebben een dikke pluim verdiend!"
We had a very lovely holiday!!

Just got back from an 9 night stay (halfboard) at Creta Marine. Gardens look like paradize but rooms are somewhat different.
Summary compared to other Iberostars and other hotels in Greek Islands where we stayed over past severals years are: Location & surroundings = 4/5, Rooms = 3/5, Food & Drinks = 2/5, Staff = 4/5
ROOMS:
Rooms are small (17sqm) and furnished like in the 80-90's. Matrasses are very hard. We had booked a room in bungalow with see view & specific request for groundfloor. This does not exist! It is either ground floor = garden view or see view = upper floor to overlook bushes and trees. Our first room with see view had a very small terrass = could not sit with 2; after lot of discussions we moved to a groundfloor room with garden view but quickly discovered that there was a noisy water pump in attached technical room; this was suppose to be a temporary solution but in practice we never obtained what we expected because we didn't accept to pay significant upgrade cost. We never received compensation for the downgrade (garden view are cheaper than see view)
FOOD & DRINKS:
Quite basic. Typical Cretan / Greek cold starters and limited choice of main courses of so-so quality; limited choice of desserts. Prices for drinks at dinner time and in bars are acceptable.
LOCATION & SURROUNDINGS:
Easy access to main road to visit the country side and other cities. As indicated above, gardens are by far the most impressive element in this ressort = calm and relaxing.
Don't miss a visit to Panormo little fisher harbor nearby with several good restaurants (Kastro is tbe best one).
MUST rent a car to visit country side, small villages, mountains, local producers, ...and enjoy tru Cretan life style.
STAFF:
Most are Multilingual at front desk. Other services: they are all extremely polite but have limited to no 'other than greek' language skills.
OTHER TOURISTS staying down there were coming from all countries with majority of them coming from Eastern Europe region during second part of our stay.

Room Tip: If you want to enjoy space outside of your room, simply book garden view rooms in bungalow and you w...

Dear Guest,
First of all we would like to express our gratitude for your visit and for dedicating your time and effort to write this review on your recent stay at our IBEROSTAR Creta Marine hotel. We are glad to may learn from your experience and take your vision into account to achieve maximum adaption to your needs.

Regarding your room allocation, we are sorry to hear that you weren’t totally satisfied with the view, however we would like to point out that on your booking request we received your preference for a sea view on ground floor with covered terrace, taken this into consideration, the best possible room allocation has been granted as the ground floor has a side sea and garden views plus a covered terrace.
We also regret that our buffet couldn´t meet your expectations, mainly because the quality and the diversity of our culinary offer counts to our strengths. We take your comments regarding our cuisine very seriously, because we wish that our gastronomy remains a very special treat for our guests.

On the other hand we would like to thank you for your kind words towards our staff. As all of them work very hard, striving to surpass guest expectations, we will definitely pass on your satisfaction with their services.

Finally, we are delighted to see that you really enjoyed the beauty of our installations and gardens and the perfect location of the hotel overlooking its own three coves and being a perfect starting point to visit the lovely village of Panormos and the picturesque port and attractive old town of Rethymnon.

We hope to may take the opportunity to serve you again in the near future and cause an excellent and lasting impression, through our high quality service and the fulfillment of our IBEROSTAR hotel standards.

Just returned from a week staying half board at the Creta Marine. After initial problems with booking this holiday (reported previously) everything went brilliantly. The hotel is fairly remote so we hired a car for a couple of days and used the Little Train tour to go to Melidoni Village and cave. We also used the little train to go to Panormo on the last day. We wished we had realised how convenient the Little train is to go to the village as we would have used it during the week. However, it's quite easy to stay within the hotel itself - no need to go looking for food. The breakfast and dinner buffet was just amazing. The chafing dishes were constantly replenished and the variety of dishes could not be faulted. The staff were all polite and helpful and despite the hotel being full (mainly Germans and French) the restaurant ran exceptionally well. Cleanliness was 5 star and the gardens are almost manicured.
The only slight criticism might be lack of information in the room information pack. We had to ask about using the in room safe (24 euros for the week), Wi fi is available in the rooms but on asking at reception we discovered that the only way to get on-line was to pay 15 euros and that is for just one device. We also had to ask about the pool towel system as there was no information in the pack. Cosmos did not provide a rep at the hotel so we had to chase arrangements for the return journey to the airport. However, we were given a private transfer for our 21.45 flight. However, as check out was 12 noon we ended up paying an extra 50 euros for a late check out at 18.00.
It was a relaxing, week long break and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel and would love to return very soon!

Room Tip: We had a sea view bungalow with a terrace. Lovely.

Have just returned from an eleven night stay at the Creta Marine hotel and for a relaxing holiday this is just the place. Was originally booked in the sister hotel Creta Panorama but due to the late opening of this hotel, was transferred to the Marine just a few minutes walk away. These hotels are run by Iberostar and are really good value for money. The rooms are either in the main building or bungalows scattered around the grounds most with sea view. The grounds are huge and well landscaped leading down to small sandy coves which are great for swimming in.
We stayed in the main building in a very large room with mini fridge, sofa and sea view.I did find the bed hard but got used to it.
The hotel has at least ten entertainment staff who run sports during the day on put on shows at night. They were all really friendly and lovely people. The hotel is a favourite for French and German people and we did find that the Brits were a minority, but this didn't bother us too much.

The outdoor pool area was large and there was no problem getting sun beds. The pool bar serves snacks all day and drinks were available from 10am to 6pm.

The food in the main restaurant was always hot and there was always so much choice, found it easy to pile on a few pounds.!
The only thing we did not like was that the entertainment at night was in a room they called the theatre, which was just rows of seats and you could not take drinks in, so we did not watch many shows as we like to drink at night!
These two hotels are located in the middle of nowhere. You can get a bus into Rethymnon or a little train into the fishing village of Panorma which makes a change of scenery. We had a problem on the bus as they have closed the motorway for repairs and all the traffic has to come into Rethymnon on one small road now. We were stuck on the bus for one and a half hours but hopefully that will have improved by now.
I would reccomend this hotel for a relaxing, stressfree break but not for a lively holiday.
The staff are all friendly and helpful and I would return to this hotel again

Room Tip: Most rooms come with sea view so it is not worth paying a supplement.

Just arrived back after 11 nights all inclusive at the Creta Marine. Can only say what a wonderful restful time we had. There was a bottle of wine & plate of cakes in our room on arrival & fridge full of water, beer & soft drinks, all complimentary. The food is 1st class, so was the room we had, actually 2 rooms, as 1 was like a large lobby area, but had a couch & coffee table in. Views superb. Animation team were really lovely friendly guys, worked really hard all day & evening, not pushy with their requests to join in with archery (which we did) water polo, aquarobics, water volley ball, darts, tennis, football. Then they gave very good entertainment in the evening too. We actually booked the sister hotel Panorama, but it was not ready till the 10th May, we could have moved over there for our last 5 days but being as we loved the Creta Marine so much we didnt bother. Beautifully clean this hotel, towels changed whenever you want, Sheets changed every day. Pool area although could be a bit slippy was a lovely area & towels were complimentary & could also be changed whenever you wanted As we read on here before the beds were quite firm but if not to your liking you can ask for a mattress topper. Quite a remote setting but you should know that before you go. Little train trip is well worth going on. All staff very friendly & helpful & our Rep Liam from First Choice was one of the best we have ever had. Always cheery, helpful, & found us almost every day just to make sure we were OK. We did have a 4 hour delay on our return due to the traffic air controllers strike in Crete but we were kept informed & picked up later from the hotel so that we didnt have to spend all the time waiting at the airport. All in all a very enjoyable holiday.
