“Cheap and cheerful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

If you are on a budget but fancy a bit of sunshine then you cant go wrong! Its not 5*, the choice of alcohol and soft drinks were disappointing - but we had no problems with the food.
The staff were all nice and helpful- all though one poor guy mentioned not having been paid for 6 months! The boss/owner certainly didnt look like he was on a budget however, i found this quite disappointing to the atmosphere and feel for the owner who was always seen around. We had a nice ground floor apartment near reception and the restaurant which was good for when you wanted to nip to the pool bar for drinks. The animation team were brilliant but there isn't much for english kids as in kids club. It seems to all be aimed at Germany, Russia and Poland :(
It is in the sticks, so not ideal for people who want to look around the local area, unless you have a hire car / willing to travel.
My biggest issue was the pools, the kids pool area needs some TLC and its either a choice of up to your knees in the kids pool or neck deep in the adults pools so not ideal for families with a range of different aged kids!!
You have to pay for sunbeds on the beach even if all inclusive! And there were never any sunbeds free around the kids pool unless they were broken which was really disappointing. The pool bar which is supposed to serve food throughout the day only ever had a choice of 2-3 sliced cakes. They did not make use of the BBQ or serving facilities outside the main restaurant.

Don't expect luxury here!

Room Tip: It seems booking a room with a private pool was the way to Go!

This is my complaint to Jet2 after my return from this resort.

The room
On check in we were given our room details, Room 101 (how appropriate) and taken to a 'block' which was called the Miraluna Garden. This block was at the far rear of the hotel and totally separated from the rest of the blocks/hotel by a local road, which we could have dealt with, but the room was basically in a basement. To get to it you had to descend four flights of stairs. The block did have a lift...but it had no buttons that allowed its use, I assume it was a staff only lift (or only accessible to Jedi Knights using the force). Our 'patio' had the lovely view of some kind of electricity unit and what I can only assume was a filtration tank system above it also a lovely drainage pipe to the side.
The bathroom was frankly terrifying as an exposed wire was protruding from the wall inside the bath/shower area. For conformation of all these problems please see pictures numbered IMAG01, IMAG02, IMAG03, IMAG04.
We eventually found out from a member of staff that this block was usually reserved for polish guests only (we were the only English in this block) and on request of another room we were told the hotel was full and none were available.
The food
I'm not sure where to start with this, but spaghetti bolognese seems a good place, as it was on the menu for lunch and evening meals every single day. Everyone understands all inclusive food can get repetitive but this really was totally unacceptable. The famous bolognese, salad, bread and occasionally rice seemed to be the only recognisable dish on offer, and there wasn't much more anyway. The quality and choice of food was appalling, especially the meats, which the whole hotel dubbed 'mystery meat' as there was no signs to tell you what it was, and they were usually swimming in a sauce that wasn't identifiable either, unless you count the cockroach type beetles that were a frequent side order, please see IMAG05. Now as a family none of us are picky eaters and even my ten year old son is willing to try most things, but after pulling out what can only be described as a knee cap from some animal was totally put off. The choice of food for children was virtually non existent, occasional fries, and on two or three occasions fish fingers or chicken nuggets. Ice cream (i use this term lightly) was available in the children's pool area, it was foul, basically a frosty watered down horrid cheap nasty version of ice cream, and a box of cones that were crushed to beyond use 90% of the time and were just left out in the open.
Advertised on booking this holiday was a snack bar and your description states 'snacks at selected time between meals' this is a lie. The snack bar was closed and never once opened the whole two week stay, except maybe for the rat that was spotted and chased on two separate evenings, unfortunately/thankfully I do not have photographic evidence of this as he was a tad too quick!
We tried every single 'food area' in the hotel, the two main restaurants and the Taverna and all the food was the same, except for one lunch time when the Taverna served up a not so delightful combination of pasta, tomato sauce and sprouts!? Oh and bolognese sauce obviously. The 'a la carte' restaraunt was frankly a joke as it was EXACTLY the same food served on different tablecloths!
In the end we resorted to ordering a couple of takeaways from a local cafe.
The Staff
Now when I say staff, on a whole I refer to management. They were totally unwilling to help with many requests and we had to furiously argue to get what was expected.
The main evening being when the entertainment staff went on strike as they hadn't been paid for four months. Now this is understandable, I too wouldn't feel like working for nothing either, but the problem was that on this particular day they had been extremely active around the pool areas advertising the 'Amazing Fire Show' telling the children especially how fantastic it was and don't miss it kids etc etc, this went on all day. Unfortunately the show didn't go on! The entire Amphitheatre was packed, everyone had taken push chairs and all their family down to watch the show, the children's disco finished, the lights went down...and never came back on. The entertainment staff sat at the top of the steps. When approached by a young girl and an adult they were told ''no money no honey'' and to complain at reception...to add insult to injury they had all been drinking. When complaints to the hotel reception were made by at least 30+ guests the management eventually appeared and said they couldn't do anything as they had separate bosses for the entertainment staff.
Face painting, this was done in the bar area next to the children's playground on an evening, on two occasions child waited in line only to be told when got to the front that 'sorry finished now' so on the third attempt we made sure that he was near the front, when it was his turn the girl doing the face painting asked if he was Russian, no we replied, why? to the response 'I only do Russian children'. Now this as I'm sure you will agree was totally and utterly disgusting. How do you tell a child he cant have his face painted because the girl was discriminating against his nationality?? A total disgrace. So off to complain yet again.
The culminating evening for disgraceful behaviour came when, yet again the entertainment staff, were putting on a 'UV' show. One male member of the team came up to the bar area and announced to our table that we have to go down and watch as he was turning the lights off in the bar. Now pardon me but we thought we were on holiday and could choose to spend our evenings as we pleased. We told him sorry but no we would be staying there, and to leave lights on, this was met by 'no, the lights will be off'. Now this was infuriating as our friend had a child asleep in his pushchair, we explained this only to be told again 'no, lights off'. The show started and all lights were turned off....so yet again a furious visit all the way up to reception had to be taken. They did turn the lights back on in the bar eventually, but to be put through this on what should be a fun relaxing two weeks was beyond a joke. Your website advertises this hotel ' the Miraluna Kiotari Bay is perfect for couples and families.' this is as far from the truth as I have ever seen.
The Hotel
Payphones: Not usable as they hadn't paid the bill and we lost money for the message over the phone to tell us this.
Drinks: Frequently out of all basic alcoholic drinks. Now this was ridiculous as the only drinks on offer were; warm wine, flat beer, Vodka, Gin, Rum or Ouzo. The orange squash was so sweet and sickly even the kids didn't like it!
Prices: The prices in the shop were extortionate beyond belief. We all expect a little over pricing but not to the extent of £30 for a cheap lilo which burst after two days (just one example).
Dangerous window: A little girl fell through a huge glass window that was part of the children's game room. The poor thing had to have her arms and legs bandaged up. If this wasn't bad enough they didn't bother to properly clear away the glass around the frame area or cordon it off so that kids couldn't get near it, see pictures IMAG06 & IMAG07. My son wanted to play air hockey a few days later so I took him in only to discover a chunk of glass on the air hockey table! I wish id had my camera for that!
Lighting: The area around the play area had no lighting at all, it was severely difficult for the children to enjoy themselves of an evening.
Pathways leading to the Amphitheatre were treacherous as they were raised crazy paving style and it was pitch black. Getting there with push chairs or children was a nightmare.
This hotel could be so much more than it is, if only the management took extra care to help the guests and stopped trying to cut corners with the most essential of things like food! I highly recommend that you do not damage your reputations by selling this place in future. We ended up spending €700, as opposed to the £300 spending money we took with us for expected little luxuries in and out of the hotel.

must say i'v read the reviews on here and some of the bad ones really do surprise me. i went with my wife, my 4 year old and my 1 year od and i can honestly say it was the best family holiday ever.the animation team were excellent....my 4 year old would actually cry if he didnt get to see alex or bob on any given day (spoilt little **** lol) we was there for 15 days and there was always somthing different to do, the food was catered for the russians a lot but we were told that before we went and there was always somthing there for me to eat (im a fussy eater, dont like any type of veg, which there was a lot ) but i never went hungry....they have have clubs for the kids to go to during the day russians for the russian kids germans for the german kids so on and so on i only mention this as the team for the english kids for thompson hadnt turned up when we were ther but it was no problem as the german team (only ons that spoke fluent english ) made my 4 year old so welcome that my wife whilst being skeptical leaving him with strangers after the second day was pushed out of the door whilst he learnt how to be a pirate. agin if you have a family and are looking for a family holiday...this is the place to go entertainment is different every night down at the outside theater with kids disco and later a adult humer can not praise enough.cleaners always asking if there was anything special thay could do ant d the rooms were great..clean and spacious

My partner & I were transferred to the Miraluna Resort at the last minute for a week all inclusive starting 21st October 2012 & on first impressions on arrival it looked to be a lovely resort, how wrong first impressions can be. The hot food in the restaurant was luke warm & pretty much the same contents throughout the week, we had to share our mealtimes with numerous cats begging for food, fighting & jumping on the tables & chairs, the restaurant staff encouraged them by chucking food to them. All drink whether requesting Gin, Vodka, Rum etc. tasted the same which was ghastly, in order to have a decent drink we were forced to pay in the Zeus Bar served by the one member of staff who cared, Mario. Because the food was so disgusting we walked down a very stoney road with no pavements to a Supermarket to buy provisions as the shop on site had very little in it & we were constantly informed it was 'end of season'. Both theatres on site were closed & the entertainment staff felt that degrading women was their idea of a show put on each evening by one of the pools. On the plus side our room was clean & we had fresh towels daily & were able to go straight out to one of the several pools on site.

Room Tip: Rooms on ground floor by pools best

We had a fabulous week at the Miraluna!! Only wish we had booked 2. Although we were moved to this hotel at the last minute, it was a blessing that we were. On our arrival we were given a warm and friendly welcome. We were immediately taken to our bungalow, by a gentleman who carried our bags for us and was cheerful and helpful, he showed us how the Air con worked and where everything else was (safe, spare pillows blankets and towels etc.) we arrived about 10pm and were told that we could get a hot meal from the Taverna, which was a very welcome after a days travelling.
When we went for breakfast the next morning the quality and quantity of the available food was great, there was somethong for everyone whether you wanted cereal or croissants or somethimg hot,
Every meal was plentiful and the choice excellent, there was obviously some food that we didn't
enjoy but that is the same as any restaurant.
The hotel staff were all friendly and helpful, the rooms were cleaned every day and we had fresh towels left every morning,
This was the first continental holiday we've had that you didn't have to pay for air conditioning. The all inclusive drinks were always generous, and the only thing that ran out any night during our stay was grenadine, but that was probably because of the number of kids havinfg lemonade and grenadine and then leaving it!!
If I had to make any criticisms at all, they would be the number of parents (unfortunately mostly from the UK) who seemed to be paying no attention to what their children were doing and allowing them to run wild. And the number of people again mostly from the UK moaning that they couldn't get english food?? My suggestion would be if you want english food etc. go to Blackpool
All in all it was an absolutely fantastic stay.
THANKS MIRALUNA SEE YOU IN MAY!!!

Room Tip: take your own teabags!!

Spent a week at this hotel this month with my family. After arriving on the island of Rhodes flying with Thomas Cook who were excellent we were driven to the hotel by coach. On first impressions the hotel, pools etc look really impressive. After checking in we are shown to our room. The room is clean and has air con and a tv within. There is a hair dryer also inside. The room was basic but suited our needs. We were all inclusive and the choice of drinks were great. Food wasn't the nicest however it was bearable. Most of the staff spoke English and were helpful despite not having been paid for about 4 months. Overall this was a nice hotel with lots for the kids to do such as arcade, soft play , children's pool , crazy golf to name a few. The weather was fantastic in the 30's every day. The hotel is out of the way with no shops bars clubs etc nearby but a short bus journey right outside to Kiotari and Lindos. Overall it was a pleasant holiday.

3 to 4 star! No way!
Where do I start ... We arrived at 11:30pm, no food or beverages available, only cold drinks in the so called coctail bar, which you had to pay for! (Not all inclusive then). We were given the key and directions to the room, which turned out to be along way from Reception, we were offered no help with our bags or our disabled compainion, just left to it. Although there was a lift to the next floor down in Reception Building, we had to negociate very steep slopes and uneven paths with a wheel chair and our luggage.
When we got to the room and opened the door, the smell of cigarettes and stail odour hit you, we had to sleep with the doors open, on the ground floor, to try and clear the smell. The next morning revealed the full horror, damp and black mould in the bathroom, in the corners of the bath, tiles, window etc, the sink and toilet smell was offensive, obviously a drainage problem. One of the light switches in the room had burn marks on where there had been and electrical fault, one of the plugs was faulty and where the electrics came into the room, a cover had been screwed into the middle of the wires and was loose. The fridge was extremely dirty and damaged inside, no kettle, no cups or glasses. The TV worked on one channel and the remote was broken. There were ants in the room, coming in a crack in the wall near the patio window, fluff and dust under all the beds and just general unclean. The bed linen was grey, along with the towels, they obviously have not heard about a certain whitner you add to your wash.
With regards to the otwels and bedding being changed, I asked the maid to do this after a few days, which she then did every day for the duration of our stay.
The food was terrible, it was impossible to identify what the meat or fish was, if there was any, there was so little of it. Vegtables, salad, potato, rice and pasta were served up, but the origin was very dubious. If food had been served up in the UK like this, Enviromental Health would have closed them down. The inclusive drinks were cheap knock offs (alcoholic), wine was rough to say the least and the soft drinks on tap were so synthetic, bottled water was the order of the day for 2 weeks while in situ.
The pool areas were nice and clean, but there was a limited supply of sun beds, they were worn out or damaged in some way along with most of the furniture.
During our second week there the changed alot of the chairs and some of the other furniture. The food improved for a day, wonder of wonders, they had a hotel inspection and all the staff were happy and helpful! That soon changed after the inspectors went.
I spent most of my time away from the hotel, Rhodes itself is lovely and the people are so friendly. On my 1st day I took a taxi into Lindos and the driver took me the senic route for the same price as the normal route, told me where and what things were on route and where to go when I got to Lindos.
I would go back to Rhodes Island, but not to this Hotel and I would advise that you do not book here.
