“Lovely old coaching inn hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

Stayed a few weeks ago. Well priced and really charming. Decor in room was lovely, although road noise was really noticeable. Food and service were really good and left hotel definitely wanting to return. Recommended.

Booked this little gem at the last minute before we returned to work on the Monday - what a perfect way to end our Xmas break. The hotel is quirky with low ceilings and beams all around. We has a four poster room which was spacious and spotlessly clean with an amazing bathroom (free standing bath). The reception ladies were very welcoming and even though we were early let us check in. The evening meal was divine (with a bottle of wine in the package) and the atmosphere just lovely with live jazz music playing as you ate. Breakfast was just as good - we opted for continental and there was plenty of cheese, ham, fruit and fresh croissants. All this for just £89 an absolute bargain .

I stayed overnight with my daughter last Saturday night. We had an excellent welcome by a lovely receptoinist and were asked if we needed help with our luggage. The nicely appointed room was clean and comfortable with lots of hot water. We had prebooked dinner which was fortunate because another guest was told that the dining room was full and that they also had a large function on so the kitchen was stretched to say the least. It was with some trepidation that we ordered our meal in a comfortable lounge with a talented young lady playin the piano.
Our meal was perfect, It was presented extremely attractively and perfectly cooked. The service was professional apart from the fact that we were not shown our chosen wine until after it had been opened. A minor glitch. The only downside to our pleasant stay was the loud music from the function just below our room. Our complaint was dealt with admirably by the same receptionist that greeted us. Would definitely return on assurance that we were given a quiet room.

Room Tip: Would ask for a higher room.

We spent a very pleasant weekend here. The whole feel of the place is something of a throw back to a time before mass marketing and branding created a rather homogenous and sometimes sterile feel to so many of the hotel chains. It is sometimes a bit quirky, the four poster bed we slept in was rather creaky but very comfortable. But overall the quality of service and genuine sense of history blew us away.
The meal in the restaurant was also of the highest standard and at a reasonable price. will definitely be returning to this hotel

Excellant hotel with really helpfull and professional staff. Loved it :-) Wife booked this hotel for my birthday with a trip to the races. Had a great time :-) If you do the same, make sure that you pre-book a taxi to the races. It's a very long walk if not :-)

Room Tip: Brilliant having the 4 poster bed but it was not the most comfortable bed in the world and it did cr...

Our Wedding Day on 10.11.12 was held at the Saracen's Head Hotel, we had the most amazing perfect day. The Saracen's Head is completely geared to accomodate weddings, the staff are highly trained, their attention to detail is incrediable and their warm friendly helpful manner made the day run so smoothly, not even the smallest hitch or hic-up to report. The chief needs to be acknowledged because the food was the high-light because it surpassed any expection we could have hoped for! We and our guests stayed in the hotel's beautiful bedrooms and breakfasted the next morning. There can be no other words than praise for the Saracens and its staff. Thank you for making our wedding so special.

Hi,
my wife and I booked to stay here on Sunday the 4th November. We left the booking late and got the normal deal where the standard double room rate is reduced from £95 down to £50. Bargain I thought.
The hotel was very very quite which you would expect for this time of year. Although it was really quite with hardly any rooms taken. We was given what must be the worst room in the hotel ROOM 6 ! situate right aboce the roundabout. The noise is hurrendous from the constant stream of lorries. We thought the window was open it was that loud. I went into the bathroom and thought someone had left the shower on! It was a constant drip akin to the water torture. I told the staff of this problem but being a Sunday I suggested I put a towel in the bath to quiten the noise. She said "yes" do that! I was expecting to get moved. When this room has been reported before for the silly noise level. Why would you put a couple in when the hotel is virtually empty.
I was a boarder some 34 years ago at Hill House and came to back track my years all I got was a sleepless night. Even reception said " leaving so soon"? Are you suprised?
Added to that on cheque out I gave my credit card and was handed it back saying if you have a debit card then we will not charge you 2% extra for using this. I have not checked the T&Cs yet but I dont rember it saying you would be charged extra for a credit card?
We had the breakfast but after ordering the full English with out fried bread and beans it came without Hash browns and black pudding as well. Be careful when you order as you only get half a rassion of bacon! I would like to ask was this because I took the £50 offer?
Sorry but this place is off our list of places to stay in the future.
John

Room Tip: DONT BOOK ROOM 6 same can be said for 5 and 7 as far i know
