After a long day of travel, by motorcycle with my girlfriend, her friend and our infant girl following in the car, we came across on the ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. I was able get across on an earlier sailing with some other friends we were traveling with because they allow motorcycles to go right up to the front and are generally the first vehicles loaded. Once I got over to the Island, some of my friends were staying with some family and they understood that it had been a long day already and would be much longer and after dark on a highway with lots of deer the rest of the way to Langford. They suggested that we call ahead to the hotel and make arrangements to only stay with them for the following two nights instead of that night. I called my girlfriend, as she was the one who made the reservation. She called me back a few moments later to tell me that they would charge the full amount of the room for that evening. We then decided that it would be best for us to continue on to Langford to our hotel. I was a little suspicious when we drove into the parking lot of the hotel and it looked nothing like the picture on their website. In the middle of peak vacation time, you'd figure the parking lot of any hotel would be full, not this one. There were three or four cars and a tractor trailer. As soon as we walked in the door to the lobby, it smelled terrible and there were large stains on the carpet. In our room there was no fridge (which my girlfriend had specified when making the reservation), no air conditioning, no one working at the front desk (it closes at 10pm each evening). When our friend decided to use the washroom in our room, she went in and closed the door, when she was done she tried to come out but the door stuck and she pulled hard enough to pull the already busted door jamb in with the door, which I kind of pieced back together. Our 6 week old daughter was sneezing from the smell of the hotel. It just wreaked throughout the building. The beds were old and saggy. They didn't even have our room cleaned properly. The bathroom floor was sticky, there were slimy glass rings on the night stands, the towels were dirty. This hotel was outright disgusting. On their website, they claim to be newly renovated. If they call a new sink installed and a kicked-in bathroom door newly renovated, then I guess it's newly renovated. I give this hotel 100 thumbs down. Even though we had three nights booked, one night was too much. Before we went to bed that evening, we made a reservation at The Four Points by Sheraton and our two next nights were clean, comfortable and enjoyable for $115 per night with the government rate.
