A peaceful, well manicured and interesting landscape to explore, beautiful grounds. The castle is impressive to see.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

The well maintained gardens at Hatley Castle are well worth a visit at any time of year. The grounds keepers do an excellent job and keep the area always presentable. Its a great place to watch the seasons change, to stroll quietly beneath mature trees and enjoy the flowers and plants that line the pathways. The Japanese Garden component is one of the most peaceful places I know. There is always a variety of waterfowl there and also in the pond to the south end of the park. Best of all, there are no crowds. You can move on at your own pace and take in the beauty of nature. Wonderful.

“Only if you're bored”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

The gardens were not very well maintained and none of the scrubs were pruned. It's very rustic so don't expect any kind of manicured gardens. It was a nice walk but I don't think I would hurry back any time soon. If you have any mobility issue this place may not be the best as the walkways are not always level. My mom ended up breaking her toe on one of the stairs which put a damper on everything.

If you're looking for beauty skip it and go out to butchart gardens!

“A lovely place to see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

This is a beautiful and tranquil place to "stop and smell the roses" so to speak. There were no roses in bloom when I was there, but it wasn't my first time. I thoroughly enjoyed walking the property. There are plants that are hundreds of years old! With so much eye candy about I can just walk my worries away.
