“Another WONDERFUL Week at Memories (Breezes) Jibacoa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We just returned from a fabulous week at Memories Jibacoa. I agree with all of the positive reviews so here is the 'new' info I can share:
-Try the pina colada bar across the road for dinner and drinks. The authentic food is outstanding, reasonably priced, and it is a cultural experience.
-If you are looking for an excellent tour of Havana, I would highly recommend Ana (in a classic red chevy) or Humberto (in a Peugot). They both provided us with tours into Havana and Varadero, at a cost of $70 for a 7 hour guided tour ($60 since we booked by telephone in advance of our trip). We tour each year with Ana and Humberto, so feel free to contact me if you would like their phone number. In the 8 years that I've been going to Jibacoa, the tour business has become very competitive and some drivers play games with 'additional costs' upon your return to the hotel. We were fortunate to meet Ana and Humberto years ago, and have become loyal customers each year and always learn something new with each tour.
-Small items are very much appreciated right now as there seems to be very little stock of supplies in the stores for the Cubans. We brought many Dollar Store items as well as Nutella (which is always a popular gift in Cuba)
-There was no longer a 25 CUC departure tax when we left the airport. This was quite a surprise as I was there in March and it was still being charged.
Happy travels, and feel free to message if you want any specific info about this resort or the area.

This was my second time in Cuba. We came to this resort because of the proximity to Havana and the off shore snorkelling. We were not disappointed with either of these. Our first few days had calm waters and the snorkelling right off the beach was terrific! You just need to hope the beach isn't red flagged.
We spent a wonderful afternoon in Havana. We by passed the 'resort excursions' and caught taxis into the city. This was definitely the way to go. Jesus (the towel guy at the beach) recommended us to Eunice. She came with 3 cars (old 50's Chevys) to transport all 11 of us. Eunice was very knowledgeable and a super nice person. She brought us to the Market, toured us around Old Havana and recommended a nice place to eat. We wanted to hit the Jazz Cafe later, and for a few extra pesos they stayed with us into the night! I would highly her over the sunwing excursions.
We wandered a few times up to the village of Jibacoa. The people there were great and loved having visitors from the resort. El Cacique restaurant Pina Coladas were muy bueno, much better then any on the resort.
The resort was small, quiet and secluded, if you are looking to party, this is not the place. If you are looking to relax, this is the place. At 34, I felt like I was one of the youngest guests at the resort.
The food was good by Cuban standards, but not amazing. The service was to be desired. I felt returning guests were treated with priority over us first time guests and the restaurants were not at all accommodating to our larger group.
There is no wifi, and the internet at the internet cafe is very slow, almost unusable during peak hours. If you need the internet, don't go here.
The only major complaint any of us had was my wife had a dress missing from the closet after the first day. She approached the front desk and they told her talk to the cleaning lady (which I thought was tacky). We had a different cleaning lady after that, so we couldn't even ask the one that cleaned our room on the first day and we never saw the dress again.
Another guest told us he was missing headphones and was also told by the front desk to talk to the cleaning lady! Not the best way to handle theft.
Also, the spa looked nice, but was unfinished and non operational. We were told by another guest that they started construction on this 3 years back, but I think that was a deficiency of the previous management as the resort had just started to be run by Memories (previously Breezes).
I think they were starting to upgrade the rooms too. Our room was not upgraded, old TV, hard bed, old bedding, and our room needed to be fumigated one day.
The chairs around the pool were comfy, but shade was hard to find. The beach chairs can be upgraded.
The Memories song can get a bit annoying too.

Stayed at the resort for nearly 2 weeks middle of April. Make up of the guest was about 80% Canadian, 5% German, 5% British and then a mixture of nationalities. A beautiful location set in wonderful grounds. Beach is lovely with great snorkelling. Staff are very friendly and appear to enjoy their jobs.
The service in all the bars and restaurants is very good, we found the 2 male waiters at the beach bar during the day to be excellent. Food overall is ok you could always find something to eat. What makes this place stand out is the staff, the beautiful location and the totally laid back atmosphere, there are none of the silly rules you see in a lot of all inclusive resorts. Would we return You bet!

We stayed at Memories Jibacoa in March . It was our first stay at Memories . We have been to 5 star resorts in Cuba, Dominican Republic and Mexico . We arrived at the resort at 3 am. We were shown to our room with a quick tour of resort on the way. Our room was spotless and had a beautiful ocean view.
Many of the guests are over 50 , but there were some younger guests . The layout of the resort is great , easy to get around. We went there for the lush mountainous background and were not disappointed , it was also convenient that it is half way to Havana from Varadero. We were very pleased with our choice. Loved it!
Both the beach and pool have drink service. We had lunch at the beach restaurant twice . It was very good, especially the roasted pork. The beach is great for relaxing at . Man Of War came a few days while we were there , usually around lunch time. A minor complaint and I knew before we went , is the hard plastic loungers at the beach. Hoping new management will get better loungers.
The buffet was our favourite restaurant .They replenish the food frequently ,keeping it fresh. The service in the buffet is excellent .The wait staff were the best ! The Manager Julie put in very long days overseeing the restaurant. She is very friendly to talk to .We told her we hoped they kept all of the wonderful staff at resort. The bands that play during dinner are very good.
The a la cartes were OK .We preferred the service at the buffet. Maybe because our reservations were at 9 the staff were winding down. The piano bar has delicious coffee drinks . We went every night after dinner. The gardeners and the housekeeping staff keep the resort very clean . They never stop. The entertainment staff was great . They welcome you to activities , but are not loud or pushy. We did the morning hike up the hill . It was absolutely beautiful. It is quite steep at the beginning. We did a day trip to Havana with Ana and Raidel Bello . We met them on the road on our way back from the hike . They are both wonderful and will take you wherever you want to go and are very helpful. We had a great tour.We both loved Memories and plan on going back. It is unfortunate that there are no packages to Memories leaving Halifax in December . We would have booked it , but are going to Varadero instead . Hopefully next time !

We returned from Cuba Fri 1st May, after spending 2 wonderful weeks at the the resort .What can I say very relaxing not overcrowded, everyone friendly, staff attentive and very caring. Immaculate grounds, food plentiful and a good variety. So nice to be around staff which always seem to be happy and enjoy their work which comes through everyday always a welcoming smile.
Beach is beautiful, nice beach bar , which is also the grill bar for lunch where there is a sufficient selection for lunch, and you are able to sit in the shade whilst having lunch.
Rooms cleaned everyday , towels changed when requested (by leaving used towels in the bath).
The resort has a lovely feeling homely, friendly, there is always plenty to do, recommend the catamaran trip to coco Blanca a must do, fun all the way there, whilst there, and all the way back, beautiful lunch.
We also visited Havana for the day , our guide was Katia whose English is perfect her knowledge plentiful and made the day very enjoyable, our transport was a 1956 Chevy , air conditioned driven by Andy our driver for the day cost 70cuc , well worth it , there is so much to see , Any one wishing to do this , Katia can be contacted on katiamanso@nauta.cu
There are no downsides to this holiday apart from having to come home.
Anyone who is about to go to this resort for there holiday you will love it that's for sure.
This was our first trip to Cuba ,but will not be our last, we shall be retuning again within the next couple of years.

Room Tip: We stayed in a garden view room , but which was also close to beach perfect.Pool rooms some people c...

Just returned from a 2 week stay at Jibacoa and we were not disappointed in the least. Our daugher, son-in-law, son, and family friend joined us. This was our 6th visit and we were very hesitant due to the change in management, but the trip was our best yet. My husband and I stayed in an oceanfront suite and I have to say it was wonderful.

The new changes have made a great improvement to an already lovely resort. To the added seating throughout, refreshments at the front door, dressings for the pool cabanas, new palapas, food quality and variety, and yes there is peanut butter for breakfast, to name a few.

The addition of another a la carte restaurant at the beach is very nice, the sunset is amazing while eating dinner. The outdoor seating at the Taberna restaurant is also lovely.

The overhaul appearance has been improved and as repeat guests we could not be happier with the changes. Thank you!

This resort is still a haven for those of us that need a refuge to relax and unwind. The music is not very loud at the beach and pool, the staff are very accommodating and friendly, no overcrowding on the beach and most of all no expectations from the staff for tipping.

One new adventure that can be found is Paragliding!! Around 3:00 a few paragliders will sail on to the beach. Just go up to them and book a ride for 50.00 cuc. My son and I did it and it was amazing :) Make sure you take a camera the pics are incredible.

We will definitely be returning. So happy the changes have kept the standard we have expected for our stay at Jibacoa.

Overall our 2 week vacation was more than we could of asked for.

Memories Jibacoa was chosen for opportunity to snorkel and dive. We are both marine biologists and the resort provided an excellent break with some good diving and snorkelling on some great unspoilt sites for marine life. Care is taken to conserve the reef so that off the beach there are healthy elkhorn corals and plenty of fish. The dives were all good, well organised with good equipment available and on some great unspoilt sites. The dive guides Andres, Lemay and Pedro were all good and looked after us very well. The resort was good too. The staff all work very hard to ensure you have a great stay. Food was good, with a good selection bearing in mind this is Cuba so all local produce and very fresh. The Virgin rep, Vladimir, was very good too from first meeting at Havana Airport through to online check-in for return. Highlight was on last day hiring a 1952 Chevrolet through Odeitty with a driver Vladimir (another Vladimir!) and a guide Vivi to take us back to the airport via the Botanic Gardens and Havana. Just brilliant both the people and the places they took us. Vivi was a great guide full of enthusiasm and information and with very good English.
