“Marchfeldhof tourist trap”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2010

Just returned from a Trafalgar Europe bustour and this was featurered as an optional tour in a 'Authantic" Viennese restaurant. When the bus stopped the waiters came to greet us waiving and unrolling a red carpet. The restaurant is devided in various rooms decorated with antiques and fleamarket finds everywhere. Our room had a guy playing keyboard with real Vienna music...cha cha and tangos. The authentic menu featured 'Wiener Schitzel from turkey! -Grilled catfish- Fried beef meat - etc. YUM! Ladies bathrooms had a naked mannquin and a collection of hairspray cans plus naughty naked men pictures, ditto in men's bathroom, naughty naked ladies. What hilarious fun. Apperently Liz Taylor, King Farouk, Sean Connery all had been guests there. Wonder what they fed Liz? IMHO this place is an overpriced tourist trap, I expected at least Vienna music, but most sang happily along with la Bamba.

“Entertaining mix between folklore and true historic grounds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2010

The Marchfelderhof is, as the name suggests, located in the very heart of the Marchfeld, a region in lower Austria just northeast of Vienna. This region has, due to it's extreme flatness and location in central Europe, served as the "Battlefield of Europe" over the centuries; Napoleon the great suffered his first defeat here - but also celebrated his penultimate victory against coalition forces.

The building that houses the restaurant and some rooms has been in business since the mid-1800's and is still run by the family. Over the years, the Marchfelderhof has established itself as a unique location for foreign guests who like the imperial-era charm of the rooms and the literally thousands of collectibles scattered around the place. Since many upper-class guests, from kings to hollywood stars, from athletes to musicians, have dined here, most of them have left one or more personal belongings that are on display.

Food is very good, the serving sizes are far above average; seasonal highlights such as fish, mushrooms or game offer a wide variety, above all the local asparagus. Asparagus from the Marchfeld is considered to be the best in the world, and the Marchfelderhof is the self-proclaimed asparagus capital of the world.

“Not in Vienna - better food elsewhere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2010

Firstly - anyone who has supposedly dined here and has written a review would know that this restaurant is not in Vienna, but a considerable distance out of the city in Deutsch-Wagram. Niederosterreich
huge collection of junk to antiques that hang from the ceiling , grace the walls and under some glass tables. This is its best feature if you like clutter.
All of this does not rescue or disguise the mediocre food - it is just not that good.

“A video tour of the world-famous Marchfelderhof Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2010

This place is a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Well-done typical Austrian fare - known for their Weiner Schnitzel. Check out the video at www.robinbenzle.com.
