“Take time to view the rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013 via mobile

We came as a dinner tour with our group and everyone had a great evening. There was lots of music from a violinist, organ player and a couple of guitarists. Lots of dancing and a great 5 courses of traditional Viennese meals.

The restaurant is situated about 20 minutes drive from the centre of Vienna. If you want a great night out with good food and drinks, take a tour!

The amount of memorabilia is outstanding! The are many hallways and desperate rooms with thousands of items and photo's everywhere. We have seen many restaurants similar to this in our travels, but not to this extent. Excellent night and would go again if we had time in Vienna.
P.S... Make sure you spend a good deal of time looking around and don't miss the toilets.

“Museum+Restaurant combo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013 via mobile

It is just jaw-dropping! There are maybe 1000 different collections inside (each including dozens, hundreds of items, mind you!) dating back to the 1840s. Nothing is boring or ordinary to say the least. Let me put it this way, you get distracted by all the different items, pictures, furniture, objects, toys etc. and forget to eat the delicious food (Austrian specialties) on your plate. It's a 20-minute drive from the Vienna city center. It would be wise not to go with small children that cannot be controlled/stopped. Neither would I recommend asthmatic or allergic people to go there (although they would be missing a great experience) because of the dust that inevitably accumulates...

“Kitschy Fun Dining Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Had dinner here as part of our arranged tour of Vienna - group size was 52. This place could seat hundreds and you wouldn't even know they were all there. Every inch of the walls and ceilings are covered with antiques, pictures, names of famous folks that visit. It kind of reminded us of the "original Applebees/TGIF" with all the memorabilia on the walls - just here it is from Austria! It was an extremely fun place to eat dinner and admire the scenery. It is NOT meant to be your "high end" dining experience that I'm sure you can find in Vienna city centre. There was a piano player, waltz lessons and schnaps!

“Thoroughly enjoyed it!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

Went to this restaurant as an optional excursion of Trafalgar Tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. When we got there, it was drizzling so I just rushed into the premise without noticing any red carpet welcome.
Was immediately taken aback by the amount of stuff hanging from the ceiling, on the wall, in cabinets etc. Just amazing! Food was a mixture of average to excellent. My order of turkey schnitzel is only average while my wife's order of the ribs was superb. We enjoyed the live music from the violins and the keyboard too. The toilet is another location not to be missed with its elaborate decoration inside.
All in all, an enjoyable evening.

“All show ,not much go.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

We like most,it seems, went to Machfelderhof on a Globus bus tour optional night out.The welcome by all the staff outside was hard to believe and the inside was astonishing with everything imagineable decorating the walls, ceilings and even the toilets.Apart from those two things the rest of the night was fairly forgettable, the food is passable but certainly nothing special, much better restaurant's in Vienna food wise. As we were one of the first groups to arrive we had very fast service,as the place filled up it becomes obvious that their motive is to get you out ASAP to allow the next group in,this detracts greatly from a pleasant experience,I guess once they have your prepaid money they are only concerned with turnover.Departure was a vastly different experience ,we were hurried out without the arrival fanfare, all in all a superficial night out to an interesting venue but not much else.
