“We loved it.”

Great resort run by friendly Germans and with a wonderful local staff. Food was as good as any we have had on four continents. Creative dishes emphazing food for the Indian Ocean and local produce.

Housing is comfortable and service is excellent.

Picturesque location and good tours provided by the in-house tour operator. Don't miss Jozani Forest and the Red Colobus monkeys.

A lovely hotel and everything can be found there, from an open air cinema to a planetarium and a swimmingpool and a lovely piece of beach. Nice small setting they own 13 bugalows which are big , clean and has a musquito net. Also a very nice service is that the hotel provides you with a mobile phone with some money on it and if there is a need when you are away from the hotel you can give them a call. Rose , Fritz ( the german owners)and Rath are constantly around and always availabble for a talk or some advise they make you feel most welcome!
They have well trained staff and we loved them all! All very pleasants guys,
Also the food was excellent ! Nice to have a beach diner with a lovely fire , nice idea was the fondue and we can only say please go and have a look yourself you will be dissapointed!

My husband and I went to the Hakuna Matata Beach Lodge for the last 2 days of our honeymoon. What a perfect place to end our romantic trip to Tanzania. Rose and Fritz surprised us with a romantic dinner on top of some of the ruins and under the stars, it was amazing.
The food at this hotel is a culinary experience. We have never had food like this before. To quote my husband, " This isn't food, this is LOVE."
I don't want to forget to mention the locals who live at the hotel Hanna, Paul, Boris and Anna...the donkeys who roam around the grounds and occasionally visit the kitchen :)

My wife and I have had the opportunity to travel to over 30 countries on every continent during the past 10 years. Without doubt, Hakuna Matata Beach Lodge and Zanzibar generally is right at the top. The staff provide competent, friendly and prompt service. The food is consistently very tastey and well-presented. The facilities and the setting allow for very pleasant relaxation. If you are looking for a unique and extremely enjoyable experience, then Hakuna Matata is the place for you.

We thoroughly enjoyed our few days which put the icing on the cake following 10 days of safari in Tanzania. Good food well presented by friendly staff, comfortable accommodation and a location to relax.

My wife and I are africa fans. we actually go to africa every vacation. we have also already been on zanzibar several times. but we have never been at the Hakuna Matata Beach Lodge & Spa before. some friends of ours recommended the resort.
the complex is very nice, clean and quiet, with a lovely donkey family on it. the private beach is beautiful too. the service is excellent and the hakuna matata staff is very friendly and professional, what quite rarely in africa, especially in the southern parts.
hakuna matata has a great variety of wines. the german owners are both gourmet of wine and adviced us very well. they are anyway very nice people.

and now to the very best point of hakuna matata: THE FOOD!!
my wife and I, we both agreed that we have never ever before eaten such good food. not only not in africa but also not in any other restaurant in europe or the states. rose kitchen is just crazy awesome. the fresh fish, tuna, salefish, kingfish....awesome.

we had the probably best vacation ever on hakuna matata and we will definitely come back.

best regards,

Dorian

When I was looking for a romantic honeymoon location to spoil my wife with, I read the various reviews about Hakuna Matata, most were positive. However, there was one from a fellow South African, who advised ppl to avoid it! Why didnt I listen?

My wife and I had to change travel dates due to problems with our wedding plans. I arranged the dates via email etc, and didn't hear back. Only after we arrived in Zanibar, did they inform us, we wouldn't be having the honeymoon suite and other "details" (see below).

Our room was decorated by some chiche 80's designer. When we came to going to sleep at night we had someone else's hair extensions in our bed! Great first impressions! This was dealt with by the under-the-influence owners. The air conditioner kept cutting out and was really noisy, so much for a nights rest!

The food is also really expensive. Prices on the internet were the "old prices". Paying $30 for a tiny plate of lunch per person? Madness.

The staff were good. The swimming area was good too. Nice to walk around, and quite pretty surroundings.

Summary:
We booked out early, and were charged a penalty fee and more expensive room rates for the 2 nights!
There are far better resorts to spend your money at! Search for Karumba!
