4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013 via mobile

Some minor things in the room are prepared for a change. The rooms under the roof in the wooden building are NOT equipedd with climatization. Stuff was very friendly and helpfull. The food was great with lot of wild meat to experience. The bikes are in a no good shape.

The hotel is located in one of the most beautiful place of Hungary. Great possibility to walk in the forest, hike, take the small train in the forest, relax, etc.
A bit expensiv, the food is good.
Ideal for families, we also plan to go back with our son.

I'm writing my review based on the huge hype around this hotel and its 4 starts.

We stayed at this hotel on business one night and as we have heard some much good about it before we decided to pay for an extra night.
This was not such a good idea and I'm especially disappointed as we gave a stay at this hotel as a wedding anniversary previously - I hope the newly weds will be far too pre-occupied to notice the faux pas.

Good
Location: 20 minutes after you no longer have phone reception. In the middle of a forest, the trip here itself is an experience, ideal for a getaway. (less ideal for business)
The main wooden building has a great feeling to it, unlucky we got our rooms in the concrete wing. We peeked inside the rooms in the wooden part and they were cosy with nice looking furniture.
External pool allows some serious swimming, but we were not brave enough to try at the end of September.
The internal area of the wellness center was clean, offered various options for relaxation, I especially liked the calm room with its heated beds.
Breakfast: decent, especially freshly made omelet.
Service in the restaurant.

Not so good
The feeling of the concrete (they call it "stone") wing. It feels like an alien in this beautiful setup, especially after getting a glimpse on how else it could have been.
Service. Hotel personnel kept disturbing our training sessions by entering the room to freshen up our food supply. Only rating service average because of excellent restaurant staff.
The first room - double bed, normal size, nice balcony was fine, but the "apartment" we had for the second night lacked any kind of "cosy", the room was spacious and felt empty, three single beds, disturbingly harsh green walls.
Problem with hot water on the first night: well, firstly there was hardly any, secondly whatever was there was brown. Yuck.
Fire alarm went off many times during the day disturbing our training. However I'm not sure I would even remember this if it hadn't gone off during the night too. It gives me the chills to imagine the consequences of not taking the alarm seriously when we should have.
The little details, especially in the room like the slightly broken shower that was only disturbing to the eye, some worn-off pieces of furniture, the jacuzzi where the water was not hot enough and we had to hold the hose to fill it up.
The food. Simple, traditional Hungarian dishes were quite good, but once you are at a place like this you would wanna try something more exotic. Well, don't. They overcomplicate it. I had goose liver with dates sauce, spanish onions jam, mashed potatoes and salad - with garlic dressing. The sauce tastes good at first but is too sweet to enjoy after a few bites. Spanish onions jam is a great accomplice to goose liver - unless dates sauce overwhelms it. But how the garlic dressing got there remains a mistery. Foodies - beware, go for goulash soup, wild boar "porkolt", consume, those were decent.

All in all, for me this is not 4 starts and is definitely overpriced.

Room Tip: Definitely the wooden building!

It is the first time I am putting a review on a hotel on Internet following my experience as a Customer. I decided to do that, as I want to help you not to choose this hotel if you are not sure to go there or not! If you know the place and like it, then do not consider this review and enjoy your stay. In the opposite, if you like real 4 star places with good service that suits to that kind of hotel, then really avoid the hotel from this review, it is not a 4* (only in term of cost). Alltogether the service and offer are not worth the money you will pay. And I am really objective, I have tested professionally or for personal purposes dozens of hotel all over the world and in Hungary as well.
The positives: nature and forrest around, breakfast, the mint room (when not overcrowded).
The main negatives: cost for value, swimming pool (too small), outside jacuzzi (cold), rooms (definitely not the level of 4* hotel), welcome drink (that you pay at the end of the stay, it is a shame!!!), extra cost equal to one night stay for the terrasse in the room (in october, cold rainy days, we even did not open the door to see how it looks like), etc... I have the feeling we paid double for the service we received.

I visited this hotel twice, my last stay there was back in 2010. The location is probably one of the best in Hungary, the hotel is situated in Mountain Börzsöny and offers a very peaceful stay in the middle of nowhere, close to Mother Nature. Also, the excellent (although not very large) wellness section ensures that you will be refreshed and relaxed upon your departure. On the other hand, I think there is room for improvement in how this hotel is run. I found the staff rather unfriendly and not very polite - my overall feeling was that staff was recruited from neighboring villages and their attitude was just not professional. Also, I believe food - although delicious and pricy - was not quite at the 4-star level. I have mixed feelings about this hotel, the hotel itself is definitely a 4-star one, but service lags behind.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2011

We stayed in room 112 for two nights in May 2011. The surroundings are wonderful, beautiful rolling hills with forests galore.....the hotel itself has a nice wellness center and a solid restaurant. But....I cannot recommend this hotel for the price (30k HuF nightly not including food). There has been simply zero investment in the room comfort - our bed was rock hard (I am not exaggerating) while the walls were paper thin (details below). As usual, The Good, The OK, and The Bad/Ugly

The Good
- Absolutely picturesque setting. The hotel is set in a small valley surrounded by rolling hills of forests. The hotel itself sits kilometers off the main road and is reached by a winding driveway if you will. Quite nice.
- Wellness center. Regrettably the outdoor pool was not open - so cannot comment. However, the indoor wellness center that was nice. It included a small pool, outdoor hot tub for four, a sauna, a steam room, and a quiet room with heated beds. All-in-all, it was nice and appeared new. If the guests can maintain it, should be nice for a long time.
- Massage service. Had a nice 50 minute massage - the masseuse was very good and the service is highly recommended.
- The restaurant. Our dinners were solid - nothing over the top, but quite good food. The breakfast was also well done with an arrangement of various foods. The restaurant service deserves 5 stars.
- Free WiFi offering
- Yard area. The area included large grass lawn with enough room for everyone. The restaurant had a nice outdoor seating area, there were plenty of lawn chairs and even a few pieces of playground equipment for the children.

The OK
- The hotel offered blankets to use in the outside lawn area - great idea. Just bad execution - there were no blankets available and what appeared to be less than 10 being used.

The BAD/UGLY
- The beds. Rock hard. Obviously, very little investment was made in the beds. I don't know how to describe them other than they are what I would expect to find in a hostel or 2-star hotel.
- Paper thin walls. We could hear our neighbors talking - not shouting or speaking loudly - just a normal conversation. We could understand every word. And then of course, we heard everything else - everything we did not want to if you know what I mean. Very tacky and put a damper on our enjoyment.
- Our room was not freshened during our 2-day stay. While a member of housekeeping knocked on our door at 09:00 we advised we would be leaving shortly. Assuming she would return turned to disappointment as she had not.
- No screens on the windows. I am used to no screens and have no issues typically. However, being that the hotel is in the middle of the woods, we would have appreciated screens versus flying insects.

The setting is great - now the hotel needs to catch up.....The sleep quality and rooms get low marks because of the horrid beds and paper thin walls. The value gets only 2 stars because simply-put - the stay was not worth the investment, especially when you place another 15k HuF on top for a daily food bill for two.

Continue to make the investments in the room quality and the hotel could live up to it's wrongly-assigned 4-stars.

The hotel is rated 4 stars, but I think they have a lot to do to become a real 4 star hotel.

Good points:
1. localization is unbeatable, in the middle of the forest, up in the mountains, close to a forest train, good air, beautiful view
2. staff is very polite, reception people were very helpful
3. food in the restaurant is good quality
4. wellness section is smooth
5. all the place is clean

Bad points:
1. indoor pool is too small
2. breakfast is poor
3. it is a litlle bit too expensive
4. they do not spend for renovation, isolation is hanging from between the wood in the rooms, toilet is broken, etc.
5. the walls are extremely thin so you can hear the neighbours' every word even when they talk on a normal level of sound

Altogether the place is very romantic but they should spend some money on increasing their standards of quality.
