It takes quite a lot of time to get to Ayas Valley from where I live. I'm very keen skier so I selected this place for a prolonged weekend to discover some new slopes and sceneries. The selection of the hotel to stay in was affected by my limited budget. However, at the end of the weekend I had a great feeling that it was much better stay than in some more expensive hotels in the center of Champoluc.
There are a lot of things that I liked. But first of all it is the warm welcome and very friendly atmosphere of the hotel. The owners - Sara and Gianfranco do their best to make you feel like home. The feeling is supported by the design of the hotel. Although from the sixties (there are elements that remind you the fact, I actually liked it as well), the hotel is decorated in rustically mountaineer style. The bed, the wardrobe and the table in the room made from wood, the blanket covers with traditional decor and the wall color make the image of a cozy mountain room. The room itself is small so to rest after a day of skiing there's a bar with a fireplace and comfortable sofas. If you are interested, the owner can tell you interesting facts about history of this hotel, the valley and the family linked to these mountains for a several generations.
Another caption is a rich breakfast with home-made cake and jam.
The hotel is in Saint Jacques, the last village in Ayas valley, further there are only mountains. So the place is quiet, looks very traditional and many mountain trails start there. For skiing you can use the local bus leaving every 30 minutes and dropping you off next to the lifts. The nearest are 900m away and also a nice illuminated forest path leads from there to Champoluc.
On winter weekends the area gets a little busier, but during off-season weeks it's amazingly quiet. In one sentence - a perfect place for people who like mountains, nature and friendly relaxed atmosphere.
I'm already searching the ways how to get there in a year.
