This hotel is, as others have said, extremely conveniently located if the RHDR light railway is the reason for your visit, or even just of mild interest to you.
Food was of good "Pub menu" standard, and breakast was good and well presented
The bedroom was comfortable and the shower worked well, although the hand basin was very slow to drain.
It would be a good idea to put menus in the rooms, and also to have a breakfast menu, rather than the current informal set-up.
The owner and staff were all very pleasant and helpful, and the room was quiet enough even when there was a live band in the bar, although a minor niggle was that one of the doors to the kitchen is on such a strong closer mechanism that it slams so loudly that it was alarmingly loud in our room. The owner told me that this was the first time anyone had mentioned this in two years, and that he would investigate and rectify it.
I agree with other reviewers that having to check in at the bar can be disconcerting for those who are unfamiliar with the establishment.
With a little work, the owners could rectify this minor fault by opening the other entrance to the hotel (which leads into the restaurant area), and installing a "doorbell" alert for staff when that entrance is used.
All in all, a good place to stay, and I wish the owner well in his future endeavours.
