My husband and I had the good fortune to stay at Ambala Gardens for five nights (29 July - 3 August 2008). We had selected Ambala Gardens based on its very positive Trip Advisor reviews. Thanks to fellow travellers for highlighting this gem for us! Hosts Nancy and Esa were every bit as welcoming and helpful as you will read in other reviews, and Nancy’s breakfasts are fantastic. It was a short walk to the bus, lagoon and some very good restaurants (don’t miss Stefano’s at Muri Beach).
We also spent a pleasant couple of days in a resort on Rarotonga (because we couldn’t get a longer booking with Esa and Nancy), so I have been contemplating what it was about Ambala Gardens that was so appealing for us. I would have to say that service at the resort was everything it needed to be, but for me there is no comparison between lining up at a reception desk to get information about things to do, and leisurely chatting to Esa and Nancy about the best way to spend the day (over good coffee on their balcony with views to the lagoon). Had we been staying elsewhere, we may have completely missed the Constitution Day celebrations that were a highlight of our visit to Rarotonga. Nancy and Esa were so very generous with their time, local knowledge and home. We had a wonderful stay at Ambala Gardens.
