“I can only describe our experience as heavenly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2009

My husband and I spent 7 nights at the Pacific Resort Rarotonga for our honeymoon. I can only describe our experience as heavenly. We have both travelled extensively but this was our first trip to Rarotonga.

What a fantastic resort in a beautiful location. The photos on the resorts website do not do the place justice. The lagoon is incredible, crystal clear water, golden sand, topical fish and safe swimming. All the staff at the resort were incredibly friendly and helpful. Actually everyone on the island was very friendly.

The reception area is lovely. Like most other guests we hardly went near the pool, but it a nice change from the beach and food and drinks are only a phone call away. The lush tropical gardens are well kept and lovely. We stayed in a 2 bedroom garden unit, which to be honest was a bit dated and could do with a re-fresh, however it was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The complimentary breakfast buffet has everything you could want and the restaurant area itself is a lovely setting. The beach dining and bar area were fantastic.

We spent a fair amount of time lying on the comfortable beach sun loungers reading and sunbathing. From these we could order food and drink…what more could you want. The beach hut boys were very helpful and the free kayaks and snorkelling equipment an extra bonus. From the resort it is very easy to explore the small islands in the lagoon.

We hired a motorbike to get round the island but whenever we left the resort (which wasn’t very often) I just wanted to go back! The Island night is great fun and if you’re after a cheaper meal one night try Trader Jacks in town or as we did one night, get fish and chips and watch the sunset from the beach just up the road from the resort.

There are plenty of activities at the resort…my favourite was drinking cocktails….lots and lots of cocktails!

Anyone who finds anything negative to say about this place is probably the sort of person who complains about everything in life!

This is surely the most amazing place to stay in Rarotonga. The beach was on our doorstep, the accommodation was luxurious, the service was remarkable, the food delicious and the cocktails (Happy Hour - woohoo!) were brilliant.

We also enjoyed driving into town* (the Pacific Resort on-site Avis is so convenient), kayaking and snorkelling using the resort amenities, swimming in the secluded pool. I recommend the Friday night buffet. The Monday night dancers were great too.

The complimentary airport transfers were smooth and easy, despite us arriving and leaving past 11pm at night.

Can't think of anything negative to say!

*Raviz restaurant in town makes delicious Indian food! Not as good as England but great nevertheless. Better than Australia for sure!

Family friendly, which is a big plus in Rarotonga. Great kids club activities, great facilities, beautiful beach.
Everything was absolutely perfect for our wedding. Melanie, the wedding co-ordinator was great and all parties involved were professional and always forthcoming in accommodating our wishes and needs. The food and cocktails are fantastic. The venue (island ceremony and marquee on the beach) was perfect. All of our guests had a great time at the Pacific Resort.

we had a beachfront room which had lots of room a massive bed and modern bathroom. It was very clean and tidy and presented beautifully with island designs and patterns. The people where very friendly and would help you with anything that you needed with no problems and lots of smiles. The food especially the breakfast was yummy, and they provided you with entertainment at nights and provided you with a newsletter each day telling you what was happening on the island. Also a kids club which was great you could drop them off in the morning and know that they would be taken care of and have lots of fun. we can't wait to go again.

My wife to be and I were looking for the perfect island for our small island wedding. Having been given the run around by Fiji, we choose Rarotonga and from previous experience the best resort on the island Pacific Resort. Everything about our wedding was perfect. The resort could not have done enough to make our special day fun, casual and very "us". Naughty Mel the wedding planner took care of EVERYTHING. Rooms were perfect, food great, happy hour rocks and Muri beach is paradise. We honeymooned at Pacific Resort Aitutaki which is simply PARADISE and worth every penny. Go there. Up side of Raro, getting off the resort on scooters, safe, fun, very cool. Don`t rush to Fiji, Raro is under rated, Pacific Resort is to die for. NO negative comments, anyone who has any, needs to get a life. Love you Mel, thanks to you and your team.

We travelled to rarortonga as a group of 5 friends and stayed at the pacific resort in one of the large villas. After traveling around the island a bit and looking at some of the other resorts, the Pacific is definately the best resort on the best beach on mainland raro.

When we visited it was only 50% full and we were the only young group there (22 to 30), everyone else did seem to be older or with families, however that didn't stop us from having a blast.

We partied pretty hard and thankfully when the bar closes you can go down to the beach and carry on partying till the wee hours without disturbing any of the other guests.

We made some great new friends with the friendly staff who in return sorted us out with cheaper drinks and even named a cocktail after us.

The resort grounds are extremely well kept, the rooms were pretty good, nothing amazing but you don't spend much time in your room anyway. The beach the resort is on is stunning and there are plenty of activities.
The resort also booked us on a couple of local trips and the staff even recommended where to buy supplies to save us a few dollars.

All in all it was a fantastic holiday in raro and I think the resort we chose played one of the biggest factors in how enjoyable it was.

This was the final stay on our three part honeymoon. We stayed at Sea-Change Villas and the Pacific Resort Aitutaki both for seven nights before arriving at the Pacific Resort Rarotonga for five nights.

Now I must explain, we didn't think that this particular part of our honeymoon was going to be as wonderful as the first two parts, due to the reviews we had read, but we decided to take the plunge and give it a go afterall.

Well, we shouldn't have bothered. Firstly, the pick up at the airport was very second rate.
The fellow from Raro Tours didn't have any idea which passengers he was supposed to collect. It was us who told him. He ended up filling in his log book, after asking us our names so he had a record. When we did arrive at the resort, we were driven down a little alley way which looked like the tradesman's entrance, which opened up to a gravelly carpark full of potholes. It wasn't a good start.

We were shown to our room which was a beachfront room. Ours just happened to be directly above the "Beach Hut" where guests could borrow beach towels, kayaks, snorkels and flippers. The room itself was very ordinary. The panelled door which was supposed to cover the fridge was open. It couldn't close as the fridge was too big for the cavity under the bench. This was unsightly. There weren't any bedside lamps, so to read at night, there was only one spotlight in the centre of the ceiling (not enough to see by). Some of the lights just didn't work at all. The television only picked up one channel and there was a dvd player, but I was unaware of any library of dvds that could be borrowed, so that was a bit useless really. The bed was big, but too big for the mattress protector which only covered one third of the bed. Half the time you ended up sleeping on a thin sheet directly on the mattress itself...yuk! The pillows were flat and hard and a couple were a yellowy colour. There was no extra blanket so you had to either sleep with a thin sheet, or the heavy bedspread over you. In the room there was also a lounge suite which sank really badly when you sat in it.

The balcony was lovely. There were a couple of chairs and a table out there so we did manage to spend a bit of time relaxing and looking out to the lagoon.

Breakfast was very crowded. We had a job to get a seat the first morning, so we made the effort to get there when the dining room first opened every morning after that. The breakfast itself was continental, and there was plenty to choose from. What spoilt it was it was always an effort for the staff to bring tea. One staff member actually sighed out loud when we asked her for a pot.

The food generally was very average. Every garnish we had whether it was in our drinks or on our plates was brown and bruised. It probably would have been best to leave them off if they weren't going to be fresh. We ended up eating out most evenings due to the quality of the meals.

We went for a walk around the resort and found it to be really in need of some TLC. The pool area was very sad indeed. Broken concrete and tiles falling off the walls of the pool was not a pretty sight.

Getting back to the fact that our room was above the Beach Hut. Well the noise drove us mad. It went from 6.30am to at least 9.30pm each day. Some nights it only stopped at 10.30pm. We could hear everything and everyone, from the people in the room next door, to people coming up the stairs, to the people below us in the Barefoot Bar to the Beach Hut boy playing his ukelele. Oh dear. This was our honeymoon.

What was good was the check-in at reception and the check-out. The staff in the reception area did a very good job. The view was also quite nice.

This resort is perfect for families. Everything is there for children to enjoy, but unfortunately it's no place for honeymooners. We were very disappointed we hadn't gone back to Sea-Change Villas instead. Oh well, you live and learn.
