“Great Place To Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2009

Airport transfer worked well considering we came in at 2.30am. Lilly and Margaret were great for the transfer and getting us to our apartment. Toby was really great in getting fresh coconuts down, husking and cutting the top for drinking the coconut milk. Doreen was as helpful as ever in reception. Kayaks, snorkelling gear, available free. Lagoon right by the front door. Barbecue area great for dinner, and barbecue cleaned every day by Toby. Handy to convenience stores and rental car and bikes, and restaurants. Flame Tree just up the road. Need lots of insect repellent.

We have just returned home from a fantastic 11 night stay at the Muri Beach Resort. We booked here based on the feedback on tripadviser and were pleased to see it lived up to its reputation. Having booked the beachfront 2nd floor apartment we got upgraded to the deluxe apartment for the first 6 nights due to maintenance work being undertaken upstairs. Both our rooms were lovely and although it was great having the beachfront apartments the other rooms by the pool and the gardens looked lovely (and are cheaper!)
Mama Lily picked us up from the airport and was always around about the place as was Toby the gardner who was always happy to open coconuts if required.
We had considered staying at one of the proper "resorts" but after a trip to the Rarotongan (theme park like complete with many families and loud music at the pool) were glad we chose self contained villas instead.
Only criticism would be the rather limited supply of basic kitchen equipment however as we ate out 9 nights out of 11 this wasn't too great a concern.
Location in Muri is great and the free kayaks and snorkel equipment was fantastic.

We spent 5 days at the Muri Beach Resort including New Year Eve. The location on Muri Beach lagoon is among the best on the island, never crowded, clean and my 13 year old son particularly enjoyed the free use of kayaks to paddle around the lagoon, visit the islands and go snorkelling.
Doreen at reception was very helpful and Toby, the groundsman only too willing to hook down some coconuts and open them up for us. Paw Paws and bananas grow all around the resort gardens which you are free to pick. Rarotonga is one of the most chilled and laid back places I have ever visited. The islanders are really friendly, there is no hassle, no pressure to buy and the New Years eve party on the beach at the sailing club with fireworks let off from a rowing boat in the lagoon was fabulous.

All we wanted in a holiday was here, beach, snorkling, kayaks, pool, and clean, self contained, stand alone units, with barbeques on site, as going out was a little expensive. Staff were excellant.
Will be back for our next holiday.

  • Liked — clean and self contained
  • Disliked — People checking in at 1am, noisy and ready to explore, but I guess you would get this anywhere with the flights arriving during the night

In October 2008, five of us women from Australia, New Zealand and USA had a fabulous reunion in the Cook Islands.
Special thanks to all the staff! They were so friendly and eager to help us with tips and suggestions, i.e. directions, tours, car rental, etc. We loved the snorkeling and kayaking right out in front with a beautiful little island to swim to. Also enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, cooking on the bar-b-que and watching gorgeous sunsets.
We bought lovely flower leis to wear on our heads and even wore them to church services on Sunday. A special highlight was being invited after the services to share tea and snacks with them and hear about their history & culture.
It was a fantastic week!

  • Liked — Location and price value
  • Disliked — more shade around the pool maybe

We stayed here for 5 nights after deciding to leave the nearby Vara's which was decidedly unpleasant. The Muri Beach Resort was simply fantastic: a nice quiet resort with (I think) 12 standalone apartments, a nice pool and barbecue area, lovely grounds, location right on the edge of Muri Beach, free use of kayaks and snorkelling equipment, free bananas fresh from the trees, free games hire, a book and DVD library plus great staff and owners.

If we're ever lucky enough to return to Rarotonga this is where we'd go, no question. The staff and owners are really helpful and friendly and they even gave us a lift into town on a couple of occasions. There are a few shops nearby which have enough basic supplies on offer to keep you going plus there are car and moped hire places nearby (though you can hire mopeds from the resort itself).

I couldn't rate this place highly enough. If you want a chilled out, quiet, relaxing holiday on one of the nicest beaches you can hope for then the Muri Beach Resort is the one for you. You won't regret it!

  • Liked — Cleanliness of the apartment
  • Disliked — Air con struggled in the heat!

My boyfriend and I loved staying at this resort. It is a small, quiet resort which was ideal for us - we wanted the opportunity of having the pool to ourselves occasionally etc. The location was great - we used the free kayaks around the lagoon and there is a great spot for swimming 200m down the lagoon. The resort staff were very helpful and friendly. The caretaker even chopped coconuts off trees for us! We visited other resorts ie rarotongan and edge water, pacific resort and we weren't that impressed with the larger resorts - very crowded, open and busy. If we were to stay in Rarotonga again we would either stay at Muri Beach resort or the Pacific Beach resort.
The only downside was the airport transfers. I recommend booking your own through a taxi or other means. The resort contracts out this service and it is not reliable. We were very late for our departing flight as the person forgot to collect us! Not a very nice way to end your holiday.
