If you want accommodation at Muri Beach, but don't want to be ogled by folks in the next room or beach strollers, then Mi'i and Willie can provide it, for sure. We took both houses as a family, my wife and I in the Frangipani Villa and her cousin and adult family in the Hibiscus. We're not "resort people", but we're in our 50's and a long way from being "backpackers", so we expect a measure of comfort and love space and privacy. Muri Heights met our needs perfectly. The facilities are adequate if not plush, the linen is clean and plentiful, and it's self-catering and private enough to let you walk around in minimal clothing for cooling's sake. The big plus is the location - 2 mins walk to the beach lagoon, and sitting up a small hill amid the coconut palms, bananas, pineapples and, by spring, tomatoes! We just loved being out of the wind theat the beach seems to constantly have, but being able to access the beach, restaurants, bars (for happy hour), and the very funny Mr Wu's Muri Outlet store for the morning paper and if a pie, if you're brave enough...
The enormous deck is half covered, half open (yes, it does rain on Rarotonga - how else could it be so lovely and green?) to the sun, and features a big octagonal table for all the alfresco dining you could want, and a couple of very comfy sunloungers. There is a BBQ for cooking the local fresh Mahi Mahi, Wahoo and Tuna - the best experience you could want. Our villa had a large freezer in the tiled "carport" area, so we could keep enough food, ice and very chilled beer to last the two weeks we were there.
Everybody knows about Rarotonga and it's beauty, its lovely, friendly people, and the slow pace of "Island time", but our time at Mi'i and Willie's place just made it all the better, As I write here in the New Zealand winter, I long to be back at Muri Heights Villas - just the place to enjoy winter!
