We booked this hotel for a night away to celebrate our 1st anniversary. We had no particular expectations but as we got a very good deal on the room / evening meal we did wonder if the price would compromise service and quality.

Not a bit of it.

The staff were especially friendly and helpful, the food was great (and plenty of it) and we were really made to feel welcome. A special mention to the young lady who was on reception / waitress duty on 17/9/12 as she was extremely professional and helpful.

Likewise thanks to the morning staff who allowed us to have breakfast half an hour early so I could catch my train to work.

The building itself is wonderful and full of charm. Ok, there were a few niggly problems with the TV and shower in the room, but nothing that caused any grief and the staff were quick to help.

Overall a great experience and in fact we are going back for a weekend break next month.

I'm very quick to complain when I feel like a disaffected punter but equally it's absolutely right to give praise where it's due - there are many huge hotel and restaurant chains spending millions on customer service that could learn a lot from these guys.

I think this hotel is highly over-rated by the owners. It is nothing special and I would not have paid full price for it. I got a half price discount from Groupon, It has got charm and character but lacked basic amenities which really spoilt it for me. There was no wi-fi as stated, power shower lacked serious power, no wardrobe, TV did not work on the first night, then there was no sound on the second night, tired and faded towels, tiny bedroom above the kitchen so the room was full of flies during the day and very noisy. I was forced to stay out until late at night.
The room was not tidied up at all while I was there; bed was not made, nothing tidied up although the bathroom was cleaned and when I told one of the ladies she promised to come and make the bed but did not.

I also did not receive confirmation of booking until I rang again to query it.

The breakfast was ok but the portions were really small. Two tiny mushrooms, two tiny tomatoes and the first round of toast was one slice cut into two. I have never experienced this in any hotel or b&b. I understand if they don't want to waste food but surely you give a guest two slices of toast to start with, not one, with limited amount of butter.

The staff are very courteous and helpful but they need to work seriously on providing basic amenities which you expect in this day and age irrespective of it being oldy wordly.

Food prices were exorbitant and they are losing trade by charging such prices.

Room Tip: Make sure you do not get the room above the kitchen, ie Room 5.

having been suddenly transferred here from their sister hotel "The Blazing Donkey"
We arrived at our new destination "the Dog Inn" in Wingham and it looked charming. clean and quiet. the room? well the curtains were hanging off the rail and there was an electrical socket with the front off!!! totally illegal and dangerous to say the least. I had also noticed none of the electrical appliances (kettle, t.v.etc) carried PATS cert stickers!!! also illegal. the room was so hot due to being over the kitchen that our cases were on simmer.. the smell of food was constant throughout the day and night which made sleep difficult. The room although very small sufficed, but did feel that as this was booked as a KGB deal meaning we paid much less we were put in the smallest room available? having said that the bathroom was immaculately clean and the breakfast was OK. we didn't allow this to spoil our weekend but feel the need to air our views. overall a lovely place screaming out for a maintenance man?

Have just returned from The Dog Inn and have had a wonderful time could not fault it, Had the four poster room which was huge and very comfortable in ever way. Evening meal was lovely followed by a lovely breakfast the next morning. Left there to stay in another nearby hotel which had excellent reveiws but in my opinion wasnt a patch on The Dog Inn, would love to stay there again and would recommend to any of my family or friends.

we stayed at the Dog Inn for two nights, the staff were very helpful and friendly, and the building itself was very old with lots of character. We stayed in a double room which was fine except for a minor issue that the shower wasn't fixed to the wall it was only a hand held shower and the curtains were hanging off the rail, and one of the plug sockets was coming away from the wall, but having said all that we had a brilliant stay also the breakfast was very good. We also ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was excellent. This Inn is situated for trips to Canterbury and surrounding areas with a bus stop virtually outside so you didn't even need to use the car!

We booked the four poster room for our anniversary and it was beautiful! Lovely oak beams, oak panelling on the walls and a huge super king four poster bed.
The service was great and very attentive. The inn is in a beautiful part of Kent only a few miles away from Canterbury and the coast so you have the best of both worlds.
The only couple of small criticisms that I would have that are constructive and not putting the experience down at all, are even though the bed was super king (six foot) the duvet was only king size (five foot) so we did have abit of a tussle in the night, the bath had a shower attachment but no bracket on the wall to hang it up for a shower. Breakfast was very good with pama ham, melon, cheese, mozzarella and tomato, scones. but no croissants, breakfast rolls, or Danish pastries as stated on the menu. The full English was very good.
These are very minor points that the owners might want to address but all in all we had a wonderful stay and will definitely return, we have already recommended the dog inn to family and friends and one member of the family is booking a stay later this month. Well done on a wonderful place :0)

Room Tip: Try to get the four poster room is superb!
