Firstly, the Hotel does have a "Wow" factor as you enter Reception. The staff were excellent and check-in easy and quick service from the "bell-hop". The Hotel is certainly not the standard hi-rise concrete block that Tenerife is renowned for. It's relatively low-rise and extremely well laid out, with plenty of open spaces and gardens meticulously kept by the ground staff. Our room was a side sea view room, which had a good view out of the hotel towards Playa de Fanabe and beyond, with comfortable seats and table at which to chill out. The room was spacious, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The only gripe was that whilst the bed was of queen size, this comprised two twin beds that weren't locked together, which made those more "romantic" moments a bit like a gymnastic exercise !
The main pool (salt water) is well laid out and planty of comfortable loungers but you know when in Tenerife/Med etc (and the Brits are as bad as everyone else, if not worse in our experience), you know that going to breakfast at say 9:00, you need to put your towels out first if you have a favoured spot. We don't mind this, it's part of the routine. Breakfast in the Zeus has a first rate choice of just about everything you could want for breakfast but unless you're early enough to get an outside table, can be chaotic inside, as it is after all, mass catering and even though we were there outside school holiday time, there were lots of small children in there, but it is after all, only breakfast.
We were on all-inclusive, which was exceptionally good value. All drinks by pool, lunch from pool bar or in Portofino restaurant (at lunch). Beware of the lunch menu here, as things are not as they may seem. For example, in the UK, when an 8ozs burger (without bread) is advertised, that means that the burger weighs 8ozs, plus the bread etc. There, it means literally an 8ozs burger, with no bread, chips, etc, in the middle of your plate with a couple of slices of roast potatoes. A couple of the staff here were also unacceptably rude. When I asked for parmesan for my Tortelloni (I am a parmesan "freak" !), I got told there's already cheese in it. I was given some when I insisted I wanted some (it had gone cold because they forgot to bring it out when hot) and every day thereafter, they made a point of plonking down a dish of parmesan for me, even if it wasn't required. That's not a 5 star way to go on.
I hardly used the pool, instead taking 5 minutes to walk out of the hotel down to Playa de Fanabe beach and into the sea, which is perfect. If you take 10 minutes to walk a well-worn path around the base of the low cliffs in front of the hotel pool, you come to a "blow hole" when the tide's coming in, which is amazing.
The Zeus Restaurant at night has a wide choice of buffet but we found many of the dishes only lukewarm at best. The freshly cooked stations were however superb - steaks, fish, pasta, noodles etc all cooked to your liking. We mainly managed to get a table outside but inside - just too chaotic to enjoy your meal, feel like you have to rush it. Excellent wine list on the AI, clearly laid out with what's included and for AI guests, it is extensive. However, two major gripes here. After you have ordered your wine, wait for them to bring it and open it BEFORE you go for any food, otherwise your wine will sit there in the chiller, waiting to be opened because unless you call someone, you seem to get forgotten. However, if you follow our advice, you get your wine nicely served, go and get your food and start eating and then someone turns up with a docket pad for you to sign which is thrust under your nose. Again, NOT 5 star - why not get us to sign for it when the order is taken, or the bottle is brought to the table ?
However, our AI included a meal in the the Poseidon, being able to see and hear the waves at night below us. We have been to many fantastic restaurants around the world and this ranks among the best of them. The setting, service and quality is outstanding and of a world class. So much so, we paid for a second meal there on our last night rather than face the Poseidon again. Definitely 5 star !
We also used the outside area of the Reception Bar every evening before and after dinner, including cocktails and the excellent Carlos I Spanish brandy. All covered by our AI package. The AI package at the Anthelia is in the same class as AI resorts in the Maldives, fantastic range and quality (Gin available includes Tanquaray) and the above brandy. Bearing in mind the number of guests here, the service ranges from very good to excellent, especially when Antonio is on duty ! Entertainment is subdued but quality but you can still talk to each other without having to raise voices. Perfect.
Overall ? The hotel is exceptional and deserves to be nestled among the Jardins de Navaria and Del Duque. Spotlessly clean everywhere, attention to detail, nices walks within and outside. Good pools, great beach etc and excellent value for money. The only things to change in our view ? clips on the twin beds to stop them separating when couples want to cuddle (!), it is not a hanging offence to ask for a bit of parmesan cheese on pasta when you've paid 3k for a week's holiday, change the way that you have to sign for the wine, keep hot food hot, not just warm so that it's cold when you get back to your table and more outside tables for the Zeus (in the garden area a few steps below it), so that more people can eat away from the chaos and movement inside, so you can actually enjoy it. It's a stunning hotel with the potential to match it's two world renowned neighbours and yes, we would definitely go back.
Praise also for Jet2, who we booked through and flew with. Might be back to basics flying but comfortable seats with plenty of legroom (I am 6ft 4ins tall), good flight times and attentive cabin crew. Would definitely fly with them again.
Room Tip: Side Sea View Room good but would book sea view next time

I am glad you enjoyed our All Inclusive Premium offers, especially our premium beverages and gastronomy in the main buffet restaurant Zeus and 3 a la carte restaurants. We are proudly listed as the best hotel in Spain and in the top thirteen in Europe for best All Inclusive resort. I must agree that a la carte restaurant Poseidon has a unique location to enjoy your dinner and I would like to mention that just the finest ingredients from Canarian islands are used for elaborating these dishes. Our second a la carte restaurant Portofino offers authentic Italian gastronomy.
