La Cigale is a small family restaurant with appr 30 seats or less inside. The room is typically French contemporary decorated - not that cosy. We were welcomed, but had to wait some time for the menu cards - maybe because our table was placed behind a column. However the waiter, whom we perceived as the owner, was very kind, informative and helpful in explaining the food and telling about the wine. We started off some very good hors d'oevre, followed by the startes . fish soup and tomato gratin. Both very tasty and nicely servered. Main courses were filet de boef and parmentier canard. They duck was good, but it went wrong with the filet de boef. Firstly is was not served with the Gorgonzola sauce as indicated on the card, secondly the meat had a strange metallic taste, a purple color inside and was cooked well done - although ordered medium. We almost doubted if this was in fact beef meat.... Also we suspect that they use the same pan as they used for lamb. We complained about the dish, and no discussions, we got a new serving with many regrets. However the result was the same and this time the vegetables on the side were burned.
As A compensation we were offered a glass of home made vanilla, cinnamon liqueur. All in all with a good bottle of red wine from chateau de la Valetanne and a bottle of sparkling water we paid decent 91 euros.
Conclusion - a mixed experience, but may be they just had a bad day with our table.. We will probably give them another chance some day... The restaurant, on this Friday evening was full, so it cannot be that bad.
