“A quiet nights sleep in a chain hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2011

We stayed in the Campanile Alencon on our way to Spain on the 28th December. The hotel is convenient for the Rouen to Tours motorway and far enough off the main road to give a very quiet night. The rooms are "Chalet" type with car parking outside the room. Facilities are as you would expect in the Campanile chain. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the price and quality are above average - the meal was very acceptable after heavy meals over Christmas. Having stayed in the Ibis in the centre of town we found this hotel to be much quieter and will be using it again

We stayed here on the 31st October 2010 for one night on our way back home to the UK from Charente Maritime. The rooms seem to have been upgraded since our last visit and we spent another comfortable night there. The food in the restaurant was very nice and the buffet had some new items for us to try. The price at the weekend was excellent (44 euros) definitely a bargain even if the room was on the small side it was certainly adequate.

The staff are always friendly and helpful and we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to our friends.

We're all around 60 years old. This is important because the room is cheap but also very small and the third bed is a roll out from under another bed. The bathroom is adequate with toilet and shower. We were stopping over from Mont St. Michel enroute to CDG airport..
But it was cheap and for a family with one or two children it would be totally acceptable, especially for a trip for younger people to learn about the Normandy region.
I'm rating the hotel less than desirable only for three older adults traveling together and looking for a discount hotel. Spend a little more and get a room that is comfortable for your lifestyle. If you're a family with children, book immediately and you won't be disappointed.
No breakfast was included in the hotel rate. It could be purchased separately but I don't remember the cost since we we're leaving early to drive back to Paris.
One item, the hotel is hard to find in an out-of-the-way industrial area of town. Also, drive into town for dining, there are many restaurants to choose from.
We needed driving instructions to Charles de Gaulle airport. The husband/wife managers of the property were wonderful by going out of their way to help us. I'm sure they would help any guest with travel recommendations.

Thanks to a volcano we found ourselves driving up to Calais from the South of France. The Campanile administrative staff could not have been more helpful and the stop at Alencon was no exception. Like most campaniles it is on an industrial estate but there's a supermarket nearby to fill up with petrol. Easy to det to from the motorway if you follow the directions in their booklet. At all events this one was up to their usual standard. I really must find out who supply their matresses as they are the best I've come across.

We always stay at this Campanile on our way back to the UK from our holiday house in Charente. The rooms are always clean, the food in the restaurant is always nice and as we take our little dog with us having a room next to a grassy area is a big plus.

We got lost trying to find this and were surprised to see that it was a Motel in the auto industrial section of the city.

It was a little scary driving up to it -- the parking lot was empty. But we were tired and didn't fancy getting lost again. (It did fill up later that night).

The only reason I'm giving it two stars is that it was clean and the receptionist was very kind and helpful. We paid 55 Euros for the night.

It was clean. Had a hot water kettle, instant coffee with a couple of biscuits. Power Shower -- shower curtain smelled a bit moldy even though it looked clean.

No kleenex , no hair dryer.

Nice guy at reception -- he was very helpful and gave us a map of the area.

I was expecting to find lace in Alencon -- never did. We parked in the town square and walked around but we were either in the wrong part of town or there was a bunch of nothing to find.

I'd recommend going on to Fougeres -- much nicer town not much further away, with nice shops and a beautiful old city with gorgeous views from the church gardens.
