“Excellent Escapade”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Excellent property with clean sea view. Loved it's sea beach exclusive to the hotel with great pool as well. Food has been superb. I hired a bike from a shop just opposite the gate and has been excellent hub to view goa on my bike. Light drizzle, green goa, bike and feeling of timelessness. It has been an excellent expscapeade.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to pool if kid is traveling with you as kids activity will be really close to y...

We were in Goa towards the end of may to celebrate our parents' anniversary and have a family holiday. Chose the Holiday Village as we wanted to stay in North Goa and this looked like a good choice. The property itself is quite beautiful but as others reviewers have mentioned, is getting old and needs a refurbish. The rooms we nice but the bathrooms were closed with insufficient ventilation .... Expected an open bathroom at a resort especially for the premium temptation villa category. We were on an all meals package and that was the biggest disappointment with the stay. The food at the Caravela leaves a lot to be desired ... The menu choices were very limited and unappetising and there is no air conditioning so spending an hour or so in the heat for a meal was very difficult. The hotel was full and the service was chaotic as well. However, we had a choice to have our meals at the Fort Aguada next door and must say the restaurants there were much better. We ate at the Italian restaurant as well as the buffet and enjoyed both. Also had lunch at the Thai restaurant The Banyan Tree at the Holiday Village one day and had an excellent meal.
The activity centre for the kids was good but nearly everything is paid for ........ There are hardly any free daily activities organised.
One of the main reasons we regularly stay at Taj hotels is that they are very kid friendly .... When we stayed at the kumarakom hotel last year there were kids activities all day ... This aspect needs to be improved.

Overall - a mixed experience and not sure will be returning. If on a family vacation with not much of a sightseeing or partying agenda ... south Goa is a better bet.

I am very happy to write a review about this resort because we had an memorable stay.
Food is Excellent from caravella. They also have a buggy service, that's very helpful for the in-house guest.
Village property is too beautiful and big.
Resort also have an activity center which is managed very professionally.
Abygirl was very helpful, she never said no for any of our request.
Great job guys.

Hello,

We stayed here from 07/07/2013 to 08/07/2013 for 1 night and we would like to write about our mixed feelings about our stay. We had been here earlier for 2 times, however, only to have Dinner, this time we wanted to experience the stay..

1) Front Office: We checked in an hour early & the welcome was quite good.. Thanks for the Wedding Anniversary Cake & arrangement !! Rahul - Fix the buggy waiting service - we waited for more than 40 minutes and your waiting period stated on buggies is between 15 to 20 Minutes !!

2) Rooms: Though the rooms were refurbished as per the Executive Housekeeper - Mr. Shailesh, it absolutely didn't give us appeal of a 5 - Star at all.
a) Tiles were stained.
b) Few Bathroom Amenities received only once called, that was something we never expected. Required repeated reminders !!
c) During check-in: there was a person who was fixing curtains in the room & he was on top of writing table as he was unable to reach.. This was witnessed by the Executive Housekeeper & he never stopped the Room Service Associate. Also, once the work was done, the table was never cleaned at all.. We were quite shocked to notice this..
d) We did ask Mr. Shailesh to change our room if possible as the paint could be smelt, he promised to get back to us & was also trying to tell that 2029 is one of the best room - reasons better known to him..
Housekeeping Department was really a LET DOWN !!

3) F & B Service: Mr. Umesh - I must say that you are doing a great job & hope that this message reaches you from the Management.. Your name has been also mentioned at reception during our check-out.
Your presence is making change for sure.. This is not the only experience to endorse my statement, however, for 2 more times of our visit.. Food was really great - Thanks to Chef !!

4) Children Activity Center: Well manned & great experience.. Employees are doing great job here.. Though some minor maintenance needs to be done - Pic attached..

5) SPA - Did not use the facility

Overall - We would not recommend for a stay, however, F & B service is for sure that we shall visit..

Regards,
SAURABH

I'm very mixed about this review because I've had the best of both sides from this hotel. The first thing to note is that this is a very expensive hotel, even though it's quite old (20+ years) and while rooms and such have been renovated, you still feel like you're in older rooms over other hotels.

The other side is that it's a very nice and quiet resort because rooms are split into chalet's or cottages meaning there's lot's of space between you and other people = peace and quiet for the most part (you know unless you get a room with rooms above you.. then yea).

Rooms aside, the service was quite good (we complained about the fact the rooms weren't cleaned and we were send some delicious chocolates with an apology note - and the rooms were always cleaned after that very quickly). It rained the entire 5 days we were there which sucks, but their buggies drove us from the room to the restaurants and vice versa. That was quite cool, and wouldn't have happened if it wasn't raining, though with so many guests they do lack buggie numbers and should probably look into that.

One things that did annoy me were their amenities and extra services. Look I get you want to charge for Internet, but when we take 2 rooms for 5 days and pay over $1,000 in bills, How could you not "afford" to give us free wi-fi? It costs $13 for 24 hours which isn't even cheap (especially considering our house internet is $16 per month). When I asked why this is, they just said it's their 'rules'. What? Honestly these small things really start to tick you off. Add to that, a game of pool (aka snooker table) cost Rs 150 per game ($3 per game), and even Western Countries don't charge for Pool table's. I don't even understand.. do you charge for every little things in the hotel? I was surprised they didn't charge us to enter the pool as well.

Now moving onto food - that's my favourite thing about travelling. I've travelled to well over 25 countries, and each location we go to, it's about food. Taj Village's Caravelle restaurant was the exact thing I hope to never find again in a 5 star restaurant. Starting with breakfast, the non-veg section was lacking, the bacon looks incredibly undercooked (or expired - who knows), the yoghurt was terrible and the cheese smelled moldy and off. Nothing against their quick service, but wow breakfast was a disappointment, only saved (barely) by the Pancakes being quite nice. Taj Fort Aguada's Latitude had a much better breakfast.

Lunch and Dinner were ok, nothing to complain about. The Thai and Italian restaurants were quite good though, I would recommend those for Lunch/Dinner (depending on the day).

Overall, honestly I can't say I was too pleased with the Food + Extra Services side of things. It's a beautiful resort when it isn't raining every day, and the pool is great fun, but at the end of the day these little things hamper a hotel that prides itself on great service. I think next time I'll just bite the bullet and stay in South Goa where the resorts are newer, cheaper, and better. Sorry Taj, but my expectations weren't met.

Room Tip: I'm very mixed about this review because I've had the best of both sides from this hotel. Th...

I was in taj holiday village for 4 nights in the month of june and 1 night in Park Hyatt in south Goa. It came as a shock when i entered their coffee shop latitude and experienced the service. This property was once known for its excellent service and food, also having such a nice location in north goa. The food quality and service, sorry to say, has decreased manifold in the past couple of years. I have been to this property atleast 3 times in the last 5 years but this time it was the worst experience ever. Then for our last night we were in Park Hyatt. We got a room in less than half the price of what taj charged us. Moreover, the quality of food and service in Park Hyatt was much better than that of Taj. Taj needs to improve their service and food quality and make it like it was!!
