“Excellent Taj hospitality, beautiful clean property but not a good beach destination”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

This holiday village has excellent hospitable staff, beautiful clean property, well- maintained gardens, very clean swimming pool and we enjoyed our stay but if you want to enjoy the beach with or without children this may not be exactly what you're looking for.

All the staff made us feel welcome. Little extras like flowers, towel art and personalized cookies for the children really made them feel special. My eldest daughter enjoyed the activities in the children's activity center (mostly arts and crafts). The children also enjoyed the buggy ride within the resort and even the hammocks in front of our villa. We enjoyed the clean pool. There are fresh clean towels available all the time. Excellent breakfast choices so room with breakfast is an excellent option.

Make sure to visit Fort Aguada which has more dining options. This property is also beautiful.

We went to Goa to enjoy the beach but when we saw the beach, we're kind of disappointed. The beach area looks clean but maybe not the water. There are several ships nearby that emit the oil smell while we were in the Caravela restaurant. It's not for small children to swim because it's not shallow.
You also have to go down the steps to go to the beach. I think it's a public beach so Taj doesn't have facilities there like hammocks, chairs, beach towels, etc. There are also no beach activities available.

Sightseeing tours within Goa is also available. Taxis outside the hotel are a bit costly if you want to try other restaurants not owned by Taj.

See photos.

Room Tip: Allure Villa is excellent for family with 2-3 small children. It has a king size bed, a sofa bed in...

Of the four days at Goa, we stayed at Taj Holiday Village and the other two days at Taj Fort Aguada. Though the properties were right next to another and certain facilities common and pricing similar, the service levels were very different.
Stayed in ‘Superior charm cottage, garden view’ at Holiday Village. Well located property with access to a clean beach.
1. Holiday Village - While I was confirmed a certain tariff on the phone, it kept changing every few hours and upwards obviously. So between the first call I made and the final confirmation within the next 24 hours , the tariff for the same cottage went upfrom Rs. 5600 to Rs. 8000 . And on arrival, I was given a billing sheet, which showed a tariff of Rs. 11000 + taxes. Later on being pointed out, was corrected, but certainly left a bad taste.
2. Check in: We requested for an hours early check in, they seemed to make no attempt to see if it can be accommodated. We were calmly told to wait in the lobby. Well we go by the rules no complaints !
3. Check out: But for check out, we were sent the in room dining bills for the day and a note to check out by 12:00 noon sharp a day in advance. The terms and condition specifically talked about being charged extra for a delay of every extra hour. We were called early in the morning and communicated orally the same, though they were informed that we are moving to the next hotel (Fort Aguada) and checking out on time is not an issue. Not sure if this is how one treats so called “Guests”.
And at 11 am , on the day we were supposed to check out, back from our breakfast, we found ourselves locked out of the room. Did they disable the access key one hour before the check out? I don’t know. But it took us three calls and multiple call transfers and finally having to scream at someone before they could come and let us in. No one seemed to care what happened and why.
4. Travel desk – Each time we wanted to reach the call travel desk, we had to wait for ten minutes or more. Often the number was busy or no one picks up. The hotel seem to have thought it unnecessary to provide the direct extension of Travel desk. So each time we had to go through the operator, and wait.
The guy at travel again couldn’t give us any literature on places to visit, except for a brief map of Goa. When asked for a guide, to help us with bird spotting, we got a number of a travel guy, who seemed to be least interested. When we asked the hotels travel desk for an alternative we couldn’t get any. They seemed clueless again. Good for providing a taxi I guess.
5. Operator / Reception – Response was poor and slow at best. Having to go through Operator (what they call ASK) was quite frustrating at times, especially considering that we wouldn’t get response on the first call most of the times.
6. Caravela restaurant - Food was quite bland with limited menu. Not for the typical Indian who loves his/her spicy fare. Tried Italian, Indian - all of it the same. Caravela - beach side coffee shop, where breakfast is served was quite warm with few fans. We were literally left sweating each day and preferred to rush back to our rooms rather than enjoy the meal !
Room service was quick though.
7. They mentioned that there were a set of DVDs for in room viewing, but when I asked them for the list they gave me a list of four or five old English movies. The room dint have some basic things like tooth brush kit. The cottage dint have any view as such. We had to specifically call House keeping for cleaning on both days and they took their own sweet time to reach.
8. Finally, we were all packed and ready to leave. We called the front desk that they could pick up the luggage and we were ready to check out at 11:45 as requested or suggested by them. No response. We called at 12:30 and told them. No response. Finally we had to call the third time at 1:00 and ask them if they wanted us to stay back! This inspite of all the threats asking us to vacate on time!
When we were checking out, even after we told them that we weren’t too happy with the experience, they dint seem to bother too much nor asked us to give them any kind of feedback. Till date (a week after our stay, no one got back)
The grand finale was as follows: A car came to transfer us (along with the luggage obviously) to Taj Fort Aguada, which was next door. Thankfully he dropped us at the right place. We filled in the necessary details at Fort aguada for check in and when we turn around looking for our luggage, not to be found anywhere! The driver needed special instructions that the luggage needs to be dropped too!
The property is nice, especially for an evening walk and to spot a few birds or to use the pool and access the beach. But the staff and attitude is uninspiring to say the least. That’s Holiday Village as I saw it.
Fortunately next two days at Fort Aguada were fantastic and made the stay worthwhile.

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view or a private lawn could be better.

We had a three nights stay recently at Holiday Village, Goa. This was our second visit and we only have more praises for the place than our earlier stay.

The property is beach facing and has lovely lawns and seating throughout... Unlike our earlier stay in monsoon, this time we got access to the beach and with few people on the beach, we almost had the entire beach to ourselves.. had great walk at the beach and kids loved to play around the shacks.

The service was excellent - like any Taj property. Deepankar gave personal attention to each and every guest at Caravella.. During one of the dinners where the buffet had spicy dal, the chef specially made simple dal for the kids. Not just that.. the dal was so nice that I asked the staff to heat the left over for me and to my pleasant surprise, the chef made another bowl for me instead of heating up the left over.. truly touched by the service standard.

There are some amazing activities thru the day.. There were cooking classes in the afternoon during our stay, where the chefs demonstrated goan and thai dishes.. so simple and yummy..

The biggest plus that this place has are (1) Banyan Tree restaurant serving Thai cuisine.. and (2) the activity center. The food and service at Banyan Tree are fabulous.. The chef Prajaub cooks magical meals and the service by Prashant makes it even more magical..

The activity center is the best we have seen so far for kids.. Our kids simply loved all the games, puzzles and painting that the place offered.. also, the staff at activity center is very caring and you can actually leave your kids here without any worry while you take a stroll around the property.. double thumbs up to the entire team and to Susheel Tandon for his leadership..

Room Tip: Try to take beach facing rooms - come with hammocks.. Also, if budget permits, go for villa.. we had...

This Hotel is lovely and is on a beautiful beach in Goa. It is well located and the staff are friendly. Rooms are beautiful and clean and the pool is magnificent. The food is lovely. We had some issues with service where no one answered for in-room dining and we had some issues getting pool towels but other than that the hotel is a good place to stay. It is a bit pricey for Goa but worth the money if you are looking for a beautiful pool and a luxury stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the ground floor with your own porch area.

Wonderful property, this is the quintessentially goan holiday people seek. If you want to experience Goa, this is it. Great property, superb rooms, excellent hospitality. I went there two years back and was fortunate to find Saif Ali Khan and Kareena holidaying there. It was an added plus to the already fantastic Taj Holiday village experience.

With the month of April affording longish weekend on account of Good Friday/ Easter, we jumped at the opportunity of taking a quick getaway to Goa. We decided to stay at the Taj Holiday Village for the 3 night stay and turned out to be a very good decision.

With luxurious cottages in a vast property in Bardez, the Village is a mini city in itself. Never had a dull moment or felt the need of stepping out. The family enjoyed the walks in its lawns, kids had plenty to do in the activity centres if they were not in the pool or taking buggy rides acoss the property. Good food as well, pretty much restricted ourselves to veg fare at the Coffe shop- Caravella which has a lovely view of the Arabian sea

Great place for relaxation as well. Tried out the Jiva spa which was quite soothing though need to take a short ride to the SPA which is actually located near the Fort Aguada property. Spent some time at Aguada at the restaurants , which was nice but we definetely preffered the ambience and tranquility of the Village.

Highly recommended for Family getaways. Cheers

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the pool are preferable

We stayed here a couple of times before getting married at this hotel in December. The resort provides a good mixture of a beach resort at a great price. We had over 100 guest staying here from the UK of varying ages, the vast majority absolutely had the best time ever, although with any resort there was the odd problem here or there.

The rooms could do with a renovation, however I understand this is underway at present at the hotel. Having visited most other resort in Goa we felt this provided the best value for money for guests. Most of the hotel staff are very accommodating however some staff do need a reminding of 5 star service.

Overall i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to couple and families alike, for a Hotel with great grounds, lovely wide beach and great value for Money.

If you have the money then maybe the Leela or Hyatt could also be an option!
