A family occasion took us to the eastern Free State and our search for accommodation brought us to the Rose House, and what an outstanding choice this was. The twenty first birthday dinner for our twin nieces and the rest of the small group present provided an occasion which the twins will never forget, starting with the dignity of the surroundings, through the excellence of the menu in both concept and execution, to the warmth of John and Trish in attendance.
Our daily breakfasts over three days, and the wonderful sunny early winter days removed any excuse for us to stay in bed in our snug Vegetable Garden Flatlet, even though the bird life to be seen through the window may have been reason to tarry.
A word must be said about the eastern Free State - a well kept secret!. Starting with the rock formations on the Rose House property, to the views from the house, to the incredible vistas on the road to nearby Clarens, all spectacular and very beautiful - not to mention that the Golden Gate is only another 20 km or so from Clarens.
