“Excelllent example of sustainable tourism”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

I stayed there with my friends and family in the camp purple in Oct 2012. It was a fantastic stay of 2 nights and three days. The camp served locally grown organic food for each meal. The camp is child friendly and very neat and clean. If you want to experience a life away from the hustle bustle of the city and rural, this is the place to be. My first hand experience of living without electricity and only with solar lanterns, viewing the clear night sky full of starts and breathing clean air and drinking fresh water from the waterfall. Amazing experience for city dwellers.

Room Tip: There is a lodge called somerset lodge nearby so if one is not keen on camping then can stay in this...

Mukteshwar is an 'off the beaten track' location which gives it a real adventurous feel. We stayed at Camp Purple in Mukteshwar and enjoyed the tented accomodation, lantern lighting and the home cooked food along with rappeling and rock climbing activities making it a great weekend trip.

Fifty kilometers from Nainital and Saat-tal, perched on Mukteshwar ridge, surrounded by apple and peach orchards is a camp inspired by a colour that blends perfectly with nature.Watching the sunset (or rise) over Himalayan peaks, the distant graded mountains and the morning mist will all help explain why we couldn't have given it any other name.Mukteshwar (7290 Ft) is one of the highest ridges in the middle Himalayas, hence it serves as a great vantage point for panoramic views of the snow covered mountains (including Nanda Devi - one of the highest Indian peaks) Mukteshwar literally means 'Abode of Shiva' and has a Shiva temple at the highest hill on the ridge. In the temple complex is an ashram run by an old babaji, who has large following from different parts of the world.
