“Good Place in Vellankani”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

Went here as part of our yearly Vellakani trip. Good place to stay. AC was working unlike other hotels in the same area which advertise AC but does not work.

Breakfast can be improved as it was cold by the time we reached.
Otherwise stay was good as we booked a room from morning to evening. Spacious.

This time saw the new cottages & swimming pool which looked good but could not try them due to short stay.

Room Tip: Try to get rooms with Church View (2nd floor or higher)

We booked the room based onreviews from trip advisor but very dissappointed
when we looked at the room. Toilet was dirty with stains ...they showed us 2 rooms
both were in bad condition.

We cancelled the room and stayed somewhere else.....

This is correct to be No 1 in Velankanni. It even has it's own (clean) pool. And we stayed at the adjoining (new I think) lodges with their own entrances not within the main building - like your very own cottage!
It also has a small play area for children and very close (walking distance) to the Velankanni Church. The Hotel restaurant serves not too bad buffet breakfast and a very good selection of a la carte seafood! Coming from Pune, sea-food in this coastal town is CHEAP!
Having been to Velankanni before, this is by far the best hotel stay available.

Room Tip: Take the adjoining larger flats rather than rooms!

Stayed at the deluxe cottage for 2 nights with family. Two bedroom with sitting room all a/c with a kitchen. Well maintained. Staff very helpful room service was on time. Pool was an additional facility to be enjoyed. Prices are ok, compared to other hotels. Must Stay. Will surely come back again.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor cottage

This is an average hotel. We enjoyed our stay there for a couple of days. The complimentary breakfast was very clean and offered a good range of items. They offer a wide selection of rooms. Depending on the availability, you may be in luck to get their deluxe rooms. Average cleanliness as the hotel is old. However it was an enjoyable stay.

Well I stayed for very little time at this hotel for a few hours as we reached velankanni in the morning and left the same evening. This hotel is at a slight distance from the velankanni shrine. When I say slight it is about a kilometer of walk to the shrine doors.
The good part of this hotel is that it has a pool and in the heat of April when we reached there the cool water of the pool is a welcome sight.
The rooms were okay for the price though the bathrooms were pretty bare with no essentials provided except the small bars of soap and towels.
There is a small lift which gets full with three people in the hotel. Wonder what gave them the idea for it. The restaurant at the hotel is okay with good breakfast spread. Mostly south indian fare in terms of the menu.
We could not reach in time for the english service at the velankanni shrine and hence went over for the hindi service.

Considering this extremely quick trip was for pilgrimage, we had left on friday evening to chennai. Took a night train from chennai to reach nagapattinam and then took a cab to velankanni which is about 30 minutes from nagapattinam reaching there on the saturday. Going for the service, offering prayers and still having some time to buy some small things. We left the very same evening by the night train back to chennai and then took a late morning flight from chennai to mumbai. All this in space of about 40 hours. Seems whirlwhind but definitely doable if pilgrimage is the idea and time is short.

All in all this property is one of the decent properties in velankanni with some comfort if pilgrimage is made in the blistering summer months

Room Tip: Try to ask for rooms which face the pool and the shrine

I had been to Seagate hotel Valankanni on the 17th of May 2012. The Hotel room and bathroom was clean... The B/F was ok, as the omlette's were cold and the toast too... Well the cottages looked great, since we were just the 2 of us we decided to stay in the Hotel. To be honest I did not like the food in the hotel, I preffered eating outside. Their onion pakkods for evening tea were nice. Well if I return with my family to Valenkanni I would come back to Seagate, but would try the cottages as they looked gr8. One more thing I had a really bad stomach at 2 am (maybe change in water) in the morning and since I am pregnant I did not want to take any tablets, the room service was quick enough to get me some black tea with lime at that hour and I it really helped. A steward by the name of Rahul in the Resturant even helped us with our bus tickets to Pondicherry.

Room Tip: Do book the Cottages.
