“A bit overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

So we went looking for Moonrakers, and I guess were expecting too much. The restaurant was very average, it smelt of raw fish downstairs ( because they displayed the fish there ) which put me off, so we went upstairs. The service was not bad. The fried fish and curry was good. So I would say, good food, bit overpriced and not a great ambience.

“bad food bad service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

had some pretty lousy, overpriced veg curry here. was advertised as like a thai green curry, so not sure why i ordered it in india, but ah well. anyway, it wasn't. place is just a backpacker trap, not very interesting.

“Over rated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

So we finally visited Moonrakers and i was completely let down.
First, the waiter was uninterested was completely unprofessional ( he even laughed at a friend when he was asked what Veg food was available)
THe food was alright, although i would have expected "tava prawns" to be fresh off a "tava" but instead, they were quite cold.

All in all, there are many more restaurants that you could try out in Mahabs.

“Over hyped but not a let-down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Location: Easy to find

Venue: Confusing as there were 3 versions of Moonrakers present - 2 in one building and the 3rd facing then 2!

Food: Ordered some paneer manchurian - took forever to materialise. The girlled masala full-fish with rice was excellent - no complaints about that! :)

Service: Poor - there was a intellectually impaired gentleman acting as a cleaner. (Must be some relative of the owner I guess - he started eating the remaining food from the plates after clearing th table)

“Moonraker Triangle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Heading down the street towards the sea, the original Moonrakers is on the right, directly opposite is the Blue Elephant on the left, and next door but one to this is Moonrakers part II, all owned by the same family. The staff in the first one are way too pushy for me, the Blue Elephant seemed empty most of the time, and so, during our week in Mahalibapuram, we visited Anand's Moonrakers a number of times.
To be honest, this was less to do with the food, which was variable at best, and more to do with the fact that they seemed to be the only place in town with a reliable supply of beer! We heard a lot of rumours about police raids on unlicenced premises - but Moonrakers seemed to be immune! Maybe that's why they were usually busy.
Curries could be good bad or indifferent, and although the fish and seafood on offer seemed to be of good quality, the prices were actually higher than I would pay in Europe!
One particularly good waiter did look after us frequently.
