We had stayed there for 2 days in Feb'13. Its a very avg budget hotel but one does not have many options in Pelling.
The room service & reception is pathetic, no one sits there. The entire hotel staff is found in the tea shop across the street, the reason told to us that its a lean period and not many guest are there so.....
Anyways, on arrival we entered the Hotel lobby area it was at 3 PM as we were traveling from Gangtok. There was no one at the reception or any one who could guide us. Our cab driver helped us with our luggage and kept it at the reception. After full 10 mins of wondering/shouting/calling out names someone comes down from the stairs running. We were told that the computer is not working so the Check in form would be sent our room and the luggage was taken to our "Suite". Wonder who on earth told them to call it a suite.
To tell you all they have only 1 suite which is on the terrace of the Hotel. Yes, on the terrace of the hotel they have made 1 single room and its called "Suite". I called the manager and told him we cant stay in a room which is on the terrace of the Hotel. And the Hotel does not have lift and this terrace is on the forth floor. After much haggling with the "So called Manager" we were shown few other rooms and finally we settled for a Deluxe room on the second floor with a balcony. The room looked decent.
Then we asked the manager for a room heater since it was in Feb and Pelling is pretty cold at that part of the year one would require a room heater even during the day. We were told room heater is not part of the standard deal and it would be chargeable. I again called the manager and blasted him left right & center and he agreed to install it without being charged extra.
There our stay there was pretty ok.
The food is good and tasty and reasonably priced. The bar was not stocked but the person at the bar was courteous enough to get it from the shop across the hotel.
The room service staff is not present in the Hotel throughout the day. They work for a particular few hours of the day only during meal time.
They do not accept card payments, so at the time of checkout kindly carry enough cash. A word of advice Pelling is a small village and to reach the nearest ATM from this hotel you will have to take a taxi and that too there are not many ATM in Pelling. Probably only 1 or 2.
The shocker was yet to come to us. We were about to Check out after our 2 days stay and our Check In was not yet done. The "So called manager" very happily says "Sir the computer is not working". I asked him to get the register and i insisted that i want to write my details and comments there but to our surprise for full 10 mins the "So called Manager" could not trace the register.
This whole thing raised a doubt in my mind, will that manager every show to the owner that we checked in and stayed there for 2 days as there was no record of us staying there, nor any payment was made electronically.
All in all the whole stay is was not worth remembering. Felt like we were staying in some cheap lodge which does not have card payment facility or and check in check out register.
Would not recommend anyone to ever go and stay in this Hotel, now when i look back the whole process the way it is managed looks very shaddy to me.
