“The best in North Sikkim”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

The drive to Lachung is full of Bumpy roads, greens on either side, hilly terrain but it is scenic and beautiful.
Yarlam Resort' belonged to the same group as our Lachen hotel. This resort seems very suave and enticing but unfortunately we are just overnight here.
Food quality is decent though non veg options are not many.
The kids games are all chargeable. Even TT is. The climate here is awesome. Location of the Hotel is terrific.
One of the best properties in North Sikkim.
Do not miss Zero Point and Yumthang valley.

Dear sir,
Thank you for your feedback and we value the time you spared to do so. Although we generally advice most of our guests to spend minimum 2 nights at Lachung to fully enjoy the majestic landscape and heavenly beauty of Yumthang, occasionally we miss out on a few... like in your case. Hope you give us a chance to welcome you back again in the future and with our new hotel coming up in Gangtok as well... to give you a complete Yarlam experience in our small beautiful state Sikkim.

Warm regards,
Management @ Yarlam resort, Lachung.

AFTER being driven through the treacherous pathways of NORTH SIKKIM all the day long we reached LACHUNG, contemplating was it worth to come all the way. no doubt the stops at SHIV -MANDIR and BHIM NALA were awe inspiring and enough to make us realise the lofty majesty of NATURE, and HIMALAYAS,the landslides were making us realise the brittle and still young nature of the rock formation in HIMALAYAS, still we reached HOTEL YARLAM by 1630 hrs IST, which was early dusk there, the hotel was nested in the snow covered peaks, as if it was being cushioned by the peaks as their precious child.
The staff was so helpful that offered first the cup of steaming hot tea and told us to relax and put our signatures only only on the forms which they had already kept ready in anticipation, a rare promptness which I noticed though most of the times my tours pre booked, but such an attitude is missing, every time you are on the reception desk for not less than 15 minutes.
The library was well stocked with books and periodicals and cosy enough to spend a couple of hours meaningfully.
Food was served in the well appointed Hall. In the remotest place too the spread was worth enjoying. The staff was eager to serve and help you with your needs. the day we were in the hotel, there were a big group of Japanese tourists hence their food tastes were also taken into consideration too, hence we could savour that flavour too.IF THESE VARIED THINGS CAN BE TAKEN CARE OF IN SUCH DISTANT AND FAR OFF PLACES IT IS A LESSON FOR HOTELS AT OTHER PLACES TOO.
Before going to bed when I enquired about hot water I was surprised that it was available even then because of centralised heating, hence I could retire after a hearty hot shower. In the night we were provided with hot water bags, despite the room had room heaters.

In the last I would like to emphasize and suggest that the hotel should make some arrangement for drivers who drive the guests that long, for I noticed that they were not very happy to drive the guests to YARLAM for this reason only. the management can charge the guests in someway or other or bear it any way.please think on it.

Room Tip: For better view choose rooms on upper floors, best view, crisp and fresh air guaranteed but be ready...

Its always relative. In a remote place like lachung where the roads were horrible and there was no mobile network, Yarlam hotel resorts was definitely a great stay. While the rest of the town was dark in th nights, Yarlam had 24 hours power supply, heater, television and more.

While the booking person insisted on 100% payment as there was no payment options at the hotel location, it was always risky to commit to such a big amount in advance. But thanks to the advise here in tripadvisor I went ahead and booked this resort.

Was not very impressed by the driver that the resorts had booked for me from Gangtok to Lachung. The driver had a very casual attitude and he had more stops for his personal chats than us. He was also not punctual. We wished we had a better driver.
The Hotel external and internal lobby ambience was very good. It really had some amazing photograph collections through the staircase. The welcome chai was a good one after a tiring 4 hours journey. The library was well stocked, definitely can be a good one for the bookworm.

The views from the room were amazing, woke up to snowclad moutains in the morning. Stayed here for 2 nights and was a good decent stay.

Suite room (only room available inspite of booking a month before) was very spacious though a bit pricey than others. It had the best views i would guess.

The worst experience here was food. Did not sound to be too hygenic and taste was ok. But we cant ask for more in such a remote place.

But overall the stay was good, and the best option in the town.

Room Tip: If you are taking the Suite, ask for the 3rd floor for best view

We stayed at Yarlam during April 2013. first, lets look at the positives. It has an excellent location and amazing views of snow clad mountains. The sunrise as seen from the room is breathtaking. We were impressed with the variety of the spread laid out by the FnB team given that all supplies have to be carted over treacherous terrains to about 10000 ft. Hats off to them! It's goes without saying that Yarlam has no peers in Lachung.

Now to the negatives. The front desk is rude and surly. " not possible" is their favourite phrase. We checked into the hotel around 4 in the evening having subsisted on biscuits and juice during the 6 hr tough journey from Gangtok. We got a rude "we cannot keep lunch for you till 4 pm" to our request for something to eat. We had to settle for light snacks. This attitude continued throughout our stay. Their coldness was only surpassed by the nipping climate outside. Yarlam is the only comfortable resort in Lachung but that does not given their personnel the licence to be rude and condescending to guests. Surprisingly this hotel does not have a complaint register!!

Certainly a 3 star hotel with third rate service!

Room Tip: Always insist on good room heaters and hot water bags

Dear sir,
We thank you for your feedback, and value your comments. On the basis of your feedback we have made our inquiry and have tried pulling together all loose ends.....although it is important to clarify here that our management do not have a "Not possible" attitude in general, unless something is genuinely not possible.

Hope you have a great day !

Warm regards,
Management @ Yarlam resort, Lachung.

If you stay in Yarlam, it should only be because Lachung doesn't have many options. The bathroom stunk due to poor ventilation. Food was mediocre - unless you count the baked goods, which were excellent. The views from the room were superb. Overall, the hotel desperately needs better management. The play area was a farce - just a bunch of toys thrown in a corner near the gym.

It's a new property - the rooms are large with nice views. They are done up tastefully in wooden finish and the hotel adds lovely touches like hot water battles in your bed at night and packed lunches for your day hikes, a lovely DVD collection for the days that are rained out ...

The food gets a little monotonous (Indian punjabi) and I wish they served more local cuisine. The food hall is not as clean as one would want at the price but is by far the best option in Lachung.

Do visit Domang, Flower Valley, Yumthang and Katau... And spend an afternoon in the local village ... Breath takingly beautiful , be sure to carry your camera ...

Drivers get accommodation and meals so one needn't worry at all!

No phone connectivity so make any calls before Chumthang - the hotel uses satellite phones for emergency and also they don't offer any laundry service!!

Stayed at Yarlam in the last week of March. The property is very good and has all the required comforts. The food was excellent, this was the best part of our stay. There is good choice for veg. and the resturant service was excellent.
There is no other property in this small village that even comes close to Yarlam - and they do charge a premium for this.
The rooms are not huge but clean and has all ameneties. They provide a heater but it seems ineffective when it gets cold. Also there were frequent power cuts at night and in the morning. I faced issues with the service as no one was available either to receive phone calls and even the reception was mostly unmanned. Might have been because the occupancy was very low on that day.
But the property is still the best offer around and worth staying as there is no competition around.
