“Excellent and worth a little detour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

We went to Auberge de l'Abbaye on Sunday evening - we were staying with friends just up the road - and after struggling to find somewhere open in St Amand, we decided to chance here. We had the €27 four course set menu, which included another starter menu of three tasters all with a tomato theme. This was really high quality cuisine and deserves all its plaudits in the various French restaurant guides. The salmon with green Berry lentils and goat's cheese beignet were superb, the steak and chicken dishes delicious, and my peaches with chantilly was a wonder to behold, complete with a chocolate biscuit stairway to the top of the dish! And all for just a tad over 20 quid? You want find better food at this price anywhere in a lovely setting - if you're thundering down the motorway to the south, be sure to make a little detour here.

“Fantastic lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

We decided to stop here for lunch on a saturday, after reading previous reviews. Only approx 10 minutes from J8 of the A71. Lucky we made a reservation, on line.

Due to weather, no outside dining and inside, what I presume to have been the Abbey gate house, was a small room - 9 tables, all taken.

Fantastic menu, we decided that a starter and main was sufficient - but with 3 x amusee bouche was more than enough, wife decided to have a dessert after all - creme brulee which was served with 3 different portions.

Food and service was excellent and with 1/2 botle of wine/ coffee came to £80, far cheaper than other places we have eaten.

Would recommed, as one of the best resturants that we have eaten, in France

“Superb meal - would definitely recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2011

This was undoubtedly the best meal of our holiday - we chose the 34 euro menu which was the most expensive, albeit for 4 courses including a main course of monkfish, but there was a good range of menus which also looked very good indeed. We were offered the choice of sitting on the terrace or in the restaurant and chose the terrace. Friends said they thought the restaurant a little plain inside, but it just looked modern and chic to us. Staff were helpful and efficient and did their best to explain the French menu to us! Good range of wines. Although we didn't want coffee they still brought a plate of home made chocolates to try - pity we were so full.
