Its located right on the shores of the Bay of Bengal. The sea beach in Chandipur extends about 3-4 KMs during low tide & the sea comes right upto the Panthanivas during High tide. The rooms in the back of the hotel (old wing) are not so good. They don’t have any view & are infested with insects including big red ants. The front block which houses AC rooms & suites is excellent. Rooms have modern interior decorations, are very clean, with very clean toilets, clean bed sheets. They have wide windows opening to the sea.
The food is OK & you don’t have any other choice either. The restaurant needs to be kept cleaner. There are very few shops to buy mementoes & the ones that are there are very costly. The auto ride from Balasore station is quite smooth with occasional bumpy stretches & will charge between Rs. 150 – 200 only. There are a few hotels nearby but it would be extremely unlucky of oneself to be forced to stay in one of those hotels. The rooms of other hotels are stuffy, small, dirty, nor airy.
One can spend the evenings in the private beach of Panthanivas with tea & muri. Goats are a nuisance as they come expecting some muri, biscuits or coconut kernel! In the day when the sea has retreated you can take a walk for 3-4 KMs along the beach, collecting shells. You can also go 3-4 KMs towards the sea wading through ankle deep water!!! But be very careful of a species of white snake which are just about 8-12 inches & are very poisonous. You will get to collect a lot of shells including live ones, red crabs of various sizes.
Don’t spend more than 2 nights as there is not much to do. You can go to Panchalingeswar Temple & Kuldiha forest for a full day trip. OTDC will arrange for the vehicle.
