“Relaxing and unique experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

First time I tried homestay concept based on my friend's recommendation. I'd been to konkan many times at various places and hotels. Wanted to do a relaxing trip this time for 4 days with family so choose to stay here.
Dwaraka is very well maintained place, with excellent hospitality and nature around. Best part was for all days Mr Aklekar served us various kind of local dishes made with organic food grown in own field. When asked for milk for my son he took us to a place and got fresh cow milk.
For all days Mr. Aklekar planned day for us from morning to evening, excellent arrangement. We wanted to visit some non crowded beach at Tarkarli and he sent us to a beach where only my family was there!!!!
Scooba diving at Tarkarli was awesome experience, must do kind of. My wife did it even when she cannot swim, And did it twice!!

If I had to start a cliched review I would say that we stayed there this diwali holidays for 3 days and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was awesome and this is where my standard review ends...

Because there is nothing cliched about this home, the ambiance, the stay, the food, Mr. Dilip Aklekar (the owner) and the people who literally put their heart out to make sure that you are not only comfortable but also pampered with hospitality and great local-konkani food.
Now some details for the first timers..
It is roughly 15 minutes drive from the Sawantwadi Lake in the midst of rice paddies and Mango/cashew nut and Coconut trees. A beautiful red stone house in the midst of dense green trees-something that you can't miss. The driveway gets you into the front porch of the house and there the experience starts..Although it is inappropriate to say that we stayed in a room, as we actually stayed on the property, I have to mention the room details. The room we stayed(rather all rooms) is/are beautifully decorated with specially made bamboo furniture and had patio/balcony overlooking the mangroves.
Specially made vegetarian dishes for the dinner and the breakfast made the experience even more unforgettable.
Our 5 yr old son made a special connection with Mr. Dilip Aklekar and even though Mr. Aklekar was busy attending to the guests, made sure to be friends with our son. Looking at how he has enjoyed this vacation (for him it was almost a loving grandpa's/uncle's home in a small cozy town), we can not compare to any other homestays. A unique experience!

Pristine beaches and old temples of interior konkan are accessible within 30 mins to 1 hr scenic drives. Sindhudurg fort and other water sports are within 1 hr.

Overall an experience not to be missed at least once. We would love to go again..!

This is a very cozy place near Sawantwadi station. Owner Mr. Aklekar and his team look
after us like a family paying heed to our smallest ever need.
We didn’t feel that we have reached a hotel or resort; we were as much relaxed as if it was our grandparents home.
The place and rooms are very clean and serene with large beds and hot water whenever you require. You have a hall with music system, books and even wifi connection.
Mr. Aklekar's Qualis and driver will be at your service to visit nearby places. He is a walking talking encyclopedia guiding you and making your stay memorable.
Food quality is excellent, just excellent. Here you get very authentic, homely Malvani preparations far better than so called Malvani you get in hotels.
The food is very healthy.
Though we were strictly vegetarian we got so many varieties on our platter; we never imagined for.
No nonsense attitude towards pricing will give you an idea about the cost in the beginning so you can plan your budget accordingly. No need to worry about hidden charges.
To summarize in short it is a " home away from home" very truly...
From Mr. Ruturaj and family

We had a very nice experience of Dwarka hoestay in this Diwali season, the weather was pleasant, the rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated with aestetic interirors and most importantly absolutely clean and hygenic atmoshphere. This place has good open space . Kids enjoyed a lot. Owner of this property, mr. Dilip Akalekar with his great sense of hospitality adds warmth to this place, truly worth it!!!.

We enjoyed the stay in April this year. It was hot outside, but cool inside and the mangroves and the farm walks were very enjoyed. It was a bit too early for the mango season, but still good fun. Good local cuisine, great hospitality, spacious and clean rooms set inside a very nice bungalow, all make Dwarka a must stay.

Room Tip: We had the room facing the entrance... nice large balcony and spacious room.

Last fortnight I along with my family and friends (a group of 10 adults including 8 senior citizens) had a trip to Konkan for a week and put up at Dwarka Homestay for 3N/4D. We reached at Dwarka at 9 pm and surprisingly we were greeted at the gate by the owner himself - Mr Dilip Aklekar. At Dwarka Homestay there are six rooms, out of which we had booked five rooms for our group: three rooms on first floor and two rooms on ground floor. All rooms were extremely clean and the interiors of the bunglow has been done up very tastefully. The first floor rooms have balconies.
Our plan (MAP) included breakfast and dinner. We requested Mr. Dilip to decide menu for us and we realized that our decision was correct. The food provided by him was awesome. Mr. Dilip did not repeat a single dish during our stay. The veg as well as non veg food was simply delicious.
Mr. Dilip is very enthusiastic and energetic in his approach. He has been a very wonderful host to us during our stay. We were rewarded with more than our expectation. Thanks Mr. Dilip for a wonderful hospitality as well as for delicious food!!!

I’ll recommend Dwarka Homestay for everyone who wishes to visit Sindhudurg and make Sawantwadi as a base.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor are good with balconies.

I have never been to a home stay before so did not know what to expect, but the experience here will surpass any expectations that you might have. We were greeted at the gate by the owner himself - Mr Dilip, who called us twice to know if we needed any directions or details. The house is nestled in a 15 acre plantation, which supplies the house a lot of basic ingredients for the meals. The house has 6 simple but very clean rooms to stay in. Our plan included breakfast and dinner, which was a great idea as there is not much around where you can go for your meals. The food was simply delicious, authentic maharashtrian, cooked by an in house cook. As an advice, if you visit this place, do not interfere with the menu.. Let your host decide the dishes that will be served to you, because he does know best..

As for site seeing, do visit the lovely beaches around the area. Do ask Mr Dilip to give you advice according to the length of your stay and your interest. He actually sat with us everyday and gave us complete directions to all the places that were worth visiting, things that we must do.. He even gave us a packed breakfast on one of the days when we were going for an early morning sight seeing trip.

So, I would say a place worth staying and Dilip ji a person worth knowing..
