“Old world France at it's best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014 for a stay in August 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our second visit to Villiers. The house has enormous charm and character and is ideal for relaxing and watching the world go by. There are great walks and nearby medieval Clamecy to visit. We spent several days cycling along the canal path and enjoying picnics by the river.

“Would not recommend this property”

Besides the owner refusing the return of our deposit for 4 months and the continual hassle of being accused of everything from not paying for our oil, not cleaning, and misrepresenting our pet, this house had many issues. The lowest floor smells like it is underwater...and indeed flooded on one occasion. The veranda (not sure what or where this was) was not what we considered a veranda. backyard is shared by many houses and is so small. No place for our dog as i was told....just rocks and weeds.
Clothes dryer is a clothes hanger.
The first floor master bath had black mold growing on the walls and it was very small for the master....be prepared to have only minimal linens.
The first floor living area was nice and nice and the view from that floor was great.

Management Response
Oct 27, 2013
These were unfortunate tenants who left our holiday house in an appalling state having allowed their dog on all the beds and furniture leaving hairs and dirt requiring all sofa, cushion covers and some duvets to be cleaned. One duvet cover was so dirty it had to be binned. Besides this, they left without paying their oil bill and threatened us with legal prosecutions if we did not refund the full deposit. We needed time to try to work out with the oil supplier in France just what had been ordered and what oil had been used which is why the deposit was not refunded for a couple of months after they left our property. In order to stop the continual flow of abusive emails from these people we decided we had to cut our loses and refund the full deposit. As a result we were severely out of pocket. Our house will now not be available during the colder months when heating is needed. The tenants who followed said that it was the best holiday house they had rented in 20 years of renting!
