“Magnificent scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

Spent a beautiful day at Town Knowe, walked to the dam and admired the view over Kielder.
Drove the short distance to Leaplish and enjoyed watching the live cam of the ospreys.
Well laid out very clean facilities and well stocked shops.
Ideal for walking and dogs.
The car parking fee covers all sites which was a bonus.

“This is the countryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

The forest is the largest managed in England. It has various views, facilities and activities within its bounds most of which are free. Driving the forest drive from Kielder Castle to the A68, about 12 miles is recommended for 4 x 4 and costs £3 but my little Kia Rio managed without difficulty, is well worth it for the wildlife alone. You also get a true sense of being alone in this vast area.

“Good, but pick your spot carefully”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

We went primarily for the red squirrels, which are found in tw spots - the Leaplish centre and Kielder Castle. At Leaplish they provide feeders so there is a hive of activity at all times, allowing you to get great pictures of birds even if the squirrels don't show. The hide is also near enough to the main centre for you to pop back for a coffee or meal at the Boat Inn, or to use the facilities. Leaplish also has the viewing point for the nesting Ospreys (binocs or telescope needed!) and is a stop for the Osprey Ferry that will take you to various points on the lake.

At the Castle, which on paper seemed the better option, the hide is quite a long walk away with no feeders, so not only did we not see squirrels but there was no birdlife either.

Luckily, returning to Leaplsih we saw three squirrels chasing each other right in front of the hide for 10 minutes. Definitely a worthwhile trip up from our base at Haltwhistle.

“Fantastic views and scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Stayed at the Kielder campsite in one of their pods. This was a great campsite which I would highly recommend. Spent two days cycling around Kielder Water. Fantastic cycling, paths well made and planned although some of the climbs particularly on the north side are challenging. Highly recommended and can't wait to go back.

“Fantastic School Residential Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2014

I have recently returned from a school residential visit and can honestly say the teachers and the children had an amazing time at Kielder. Our lodges were lovely with amazing views of the surrounding area and the whole experience will be remembered. We went on the ferry on the reservoir, paddled in various streams, visited the birds of prey and ate our picnics whilst enjoying the fantastic scnery.
