We went to Kielder Winter Wonderland, staying for a weekend in a log cabin. The place was so picturesque and imagine in the summer it being brilliant, to head off walking or biking around the reservoir, with plenty to see and do. We would love to back in the warmer months. Staff are extremely friendly and accomodating and their is a bird of prey centre on site.

“very little christmas atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

went for the day to the kielder winter wonderland, disappointed with the lack
of christmas decor, and the only christmas music playing was over at the ice rink.
The only christmas lights were the tiniest ones draped over half dozen or so trees.
sno tubing??where was the articial snow and decoration, everythying looked so dismal.
Mrs Christmas bored the children half to death with a tale of missing stockings, using long words
the children could not understand, several parents and children walked away. The monkey
standing next to her(i assume it was a monkey)playing the violin, played the most dreadful tunes
ever.Where was the christmas tunes? a song the children could have joined in with maybe...
The story of the elves and shoes was very good, until the children realised that the elves
were the same people that played the old man and woman, disappointing again,
We did enjoy Santa ,his talk with each child was very good, but a little more imagination could
have been used on the gifts for the children, which was a bauble for their xmas tree.....
All in all,i think there hasnt been enough thought gone into this event, just playing on
christmas, whilst not making it "Christmasy" enough.

“Lovely walk through the forest and by the waterside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Drove across the dam at the bottom of the reservoir and parked at Hawkhope Car Park, near the control tower. Enjoyed a nice long walk along the new multi user path past The Belling (although I do miss the old muddy public footpath, I have to admit this is easier and cleaner!). Beautiful scenery, calm and serene, only saw a few people and a few cyclists. Could happily walk for hours here, and the dogs loved it too!
Afterwards drove to the Visitor Centre at Tower Knowe and had a delicious lunch at the Waterside Cafe. Lovely, relaxing day out. Didn't go on the boat trip this year, but will do again on our next visit. The exhibition in the Visitor Centre is interesting too - see the valley before it was flooded....
Have yet to get to any of the other sites around Kielder as I've always enjoyed Hawkhope and Tower Knowe too much - and love returning for my annual visit!

“Beautiful Scenery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Kielder is a great place if you want to go and sit and a picnic, or more streneous exercise like walking/hiking or even cycling. But do avoid midge season from approx End of April to September, they can be really bad
