“Excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Just returned from a weekend stay with 2 other couples. We were thrilled with the quality of this motel. The rooms are spacious & spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed with comfortable beds & quality bed linen. Good hanging space & drawers, tea & coffee facilities, large powerful shower & plenty of clean fluffy towels. Great parking just outside the rooms. continental breakfast available for £5 per head or you can pop to Kaplan's cafe down Lydney High street for agreat selection of cooked breakfast. Staff are very welcoming. Great value at £64 per night for double occupancy.

Room Tip: Annex rooms are quiet & have parking outside the rooms.

We stayed at the DeanGate twice; at each end of our trip around Britain. We were so surprised by how luxurious it was! Spacious, quiet, comfortable and spotlessly clean, with parking right outside your door. It had everything we needed. The Cross Keys, a great local pub was only a few minutes walk away and served excellent home cooked meals. The centre of Lydney only a few minutes further on. You would be comfortable here for several nights while exploring this truly lovely area.

recently stayed at this motel. From the outset we had a great welcome from the manageress and when we were shown our room we couldn't believe the standard considering what we'd actually paid.To say the room was of executive standard would be an understatement.Parking was easy and plentiful. As the premises have ten of their twelve rooms on ground level - built like chalets - we were able to park two yards from our front door. The location of the motel is ideal for the Forest of Dean and other large towns ie.Monmouth.,Gloucester and Cheltenham. The Cross Keys pub is opposite with good food available all day.

Room Tip: All rooms are of a similar high standard

We were delighted with the rooms and the standard of the fittings and decoration. There were helpful leaflets and the owners were very obliging, allowing us to print out boarding passes for flights. It was a great place to stay and the interconnecting rooms made it very easy and spacious.

Room Tip: We asked for adjacent rooms and were delighted to have two rooms with an interconnecting door.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Spent 2 nights at the Deangate Motel, when we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who couldn't do enough to help us. Our room was huge and absolutely spotless. I would find it impossible to find fault with the room. The bed was huge and the sheets were beautiful quality. The hotel seems to go that extra mile and we would go back in a flash. The motel is situated close to all amenities and we had a great weekend of relaxation having visited Clearwell Caves on Saturday and Lydney Harbour. All in all, I would definitely recommend this Motel to anyone. We used the free wifi which was very fast and had their continental breakfast which was lovely. We were here on a cold night and the heating was great, you just have to turn the dial up to the heat you require. Toiletries in the bathroom and a mini bar to keep your drinks cold - what more do you need? We will be booking again and will see you soon!

1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

We stayed for one night 7th December 2012. We booked 4 rooms for our party. Rooms clean, spacious and modern. Just showers-no bath. Where was the problem. Well, my daughter(in her 30's) was in a room on her own. She had a problem with the kettle and the handle got broken. It was lucky that she did not get scolded for which the motel would have been liable. She was honest and informed reception. Then it started. Aggressive, rude and objectional. They demanded a payment of £70 for the kettle+£6 same day delivery cost. What!! The dispute lasted for some time, but we refused to pay. The next stage they called the police but they did not turn up (they must have had a good laugh at the station at being called out for a broken kettle). Eventually we gave our name, address, phone number and left. TIP:- do not have any accidents with the room fitments.

When you wright a review make sure that you tell the truth. Also when somthing happens in the room do not lie and say what happen exectaly so the owner then can come to a decision. What your daughter said in the morning to the lady at check-out is, that the handle had fallen off which seems very unlikly in a brand new hotel. Then I had a look at what happen and found the kettle broken, I waited for you to come from breakfast and put you in reception and asked you what happend exectly so I could come to a responsable conclusion, and then the story changed and your daughter said that see dropped it. Know we found a piece of plastic in the bathroom so that means that see went to fill up the kettle from the bathroom and dropped it so she could not have got scolded because she would have cold water in the kettle unless she likes to have her cup off tea/coffee in the toilet. If you would have told the truth straight away I would have put that down as an accident and the story would have ended there and it is not my fault that we put good tea and coffee making facilites in the rooms. They are expensive because they are top quality. The police did come and I am glad you think it's funny that we went to them because if you where still there when they come you would not have liked what they said. At the end off the day if you did not lie to me it would have been nothing and I could have closed one eye because you left the rooms spottles which I was very very pleased about. (Oh and the prices for the kettle are : £69.95 and for delivery £4.75 and it is not same day delivery unfortunately you have to wait one week.) :/

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

My one night stay was a strange experience, Nice clean comfortable room although the heating was not adequate. Room phone not working, free wifi in room not working, hot water intermittent. After a long travelling day to reach there for an event which went on into the wee small hours I was looking forward to a late start and told that check out time was 11.00am. Awoken at 0900hrs by loud knocking on my door, asked if I was Mrs ??? who I was not! I find it rather worrying that the hotel do not know which guests were in which room... is this not a legal requirement??? Perhaps this was a ploy to get rid of guests rather earlier than was necessary as they seemed to be departing themselves. I was then rushed out of the premises with the offer of a lift to the train station and finally dropped at a bus stop. It seemed helpful at the time but in fact there was no bus for at least 2 hours. Perhaps they should keep a timetable for guests. Overpriced at £69 I conclude.

Thankyou for taking the time to review DeanGate Motel but I think I might need to explain a few things. If you have any problems in the room we tell our guests to come and tell us in reception so we can fix them stright away. As far as I know you did not tell me anything about the things you mentioned. Our checkout time is 10.30am and is even listed in the booklet you have in the room. Regards the lift to the train station we tried to help you as much as possible since your friends just left you behind and the time tabel could be found at the bustop across the road.
