“Friendly and welcoming and nothing too much trouble”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Lovely B&B, we received a warm and friendly welcome and although there wasnt any room to park our car onsite, directions and assistance were given for parking nearby. We had a lovely room in the back (so nice and quiet) and even though it did have a particularly small bathroom which we were warned about it was ensuite so no complaints and the breakfast in the morning was very hearty. Lovely people and nice characters made this a nice change from the usual blank faces you meet at travellodges and premier inns!! Would certainly recommend if visiting the area and looking for a personal touch.

Room Tip: Choose the room at the back for a quiet nights sleep but be warned about the small bathroom!

This is a typical good BnB. It's not a hotel. It's been converted from its original purpose. Therefore don't be disappointed when it does not measure up to a hotel.
The room was fine, if a little dated. A request for porridge made with soya milk was met with eager acceptance.
The price made it good value and the host were very good. Just one point, like one other reviewer I lost hot water in my shower. Not though in the wash hand basin, suggesting a pump problem.

This is a smallish B&B in a very convenient location right in the centre of Torrington over-looking the town square. However, the location also works against it – we were at the front, which I think all the guest rooms may be, there is no double glazing, and there were cars revving and people shouting outside until about 4:00 in the morning. To be fair, that was on a Saturday night, we were also there on a Sunday when things were a lot quieter as you might expect, although even the walls between rooms seem quite thin.

The room itself was clean and tidy, but somewhat dated. The bathroom was quite tiny (our room was in the attic, perhaps others are bigger), there was no shampoo, only a generic shower gel, and the hot water ran out whilst I was having a shower. The couple running it were friendly enough although I suspect they were smokers – I couldn’t help noticing a slight whiff every time I came in. Most people probably wouldn’t notice, but I really don’t like smoking and am quite sensitive to it.

There is on-site parking, but it’s all single file so you’ll inevitably either be blocked in or blocking somebody in. The owner is happy to move your car for you, and is insured, but nonetheless if you’ve got a nice car that you take a lot of pride in, you may not want strangers driving it. Plus of course, he’ll be banging on your bedroom door to get the key whenever someone else wants to go, like at 8:00 in the morning – who on earth leaves a B&B at 8:00?

Breakfast was decent enough, but fairly basic. Just cooked and cereals, no yoghurts, pastries, prepared fruit or anything (there was a bowl of bananas, apples, oranges and such like). Having said all that of course, at £55 for a double room, one can’t really complain, and in spite of it’s shortcomings I would suggest that it still offers good value for money. Personally I would rather have paid a little more and got something a little more up market, but options in Torrington seem to be limited.

We stayed two nights at Rudi and Lona's wonderful B&B. There is good storage provision for cyclists. The room was beautiful and facilities were good. The weather on the two nights we stayed was terrible and the wind was very strong with the result that the flags in the nearby street were quite noisy at night which resulted in some disturbed sleep - thus our rating in this regard. The hosts, Rudi and Lona are local celebrities and can assist with lots of interesting information about the surrounding area, history and where to dine. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Room Tip: Don't take the top room if the weather is very windy.
