Description: Zeerovers is a local bar and restaurant situated on the waterfront in the fishermen's town of Savaneta. Here we serve fresh fried fish and shrimps with side orders of fried plantain, french fries, pan bati(local version of cornbread), onions in vinegar and tartarsauce. Everything is served to you in a basket as you sit on the dock overlooking the water as fishermen bring in their catch which in fact could have been your meal if you came a few hours later. That said, this is not a place for fancy dining but rather a place where you are welcomed to kick back, relax and get your hands dirty.

“fresh fish and ocean sunset”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

you can watch the fresh caught fish be cut up or you can sit on the dock and watch the sunset while you wait for your meal. limited menu with fish, shrimp, fries and plantains. you wait in line to order your meal, then go to another window for beer. get a large Presidente bottle of beer go sit down on the dock and they deliver it to your table. every thing is deep fried but not over cooked. plantains are excellent. be careful with the hot sauce.

you should spend some time watching them process the fish. the guy on the band saw is amazing!

“Local Fare, great setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

We asked about purchasing fresh seafood and were given directions to Zeerover. It is a bit of a hike from where we are staying, but well worth the drive. Very laid-back vibe here...mostly locals. They weigh out the seafood and then charge you accordingly. All food is served in baskets lined with newsprint. The fish is fried and served with plantains, french fries, a couple of sauces and a spongy pancake. Seating is on the dock where the fishing boats pull up....you really can't get it much fresher than that!

Prices were VERY reasonable. (a glass of wine for $3) A great experience and wonderful meal.

“Way below par”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

Zeerover was recommended by our B and B and being our first night in and hungry we set off
We are very much used to fresh fish places where you are ordering at a window, then sit at picnic tables and await your feast
This was by far the worst ever! Chaotic ordering process. Awful smell at 2/3rds of the Tables. Everything, everything! has to be fried. No exceptions. No tartar sauce, and reluctant to give ketchup packets. Wait, it gets worse. No salt or pepper until we go to the kitchen. The French fries were way underdone (who can't set a timer on a fryer), and the grease, my god, the grease. Perfectly good cuts of wahoo and big shrimp dripping in grease. Shrimp so overdone they refused to be peeled.
Well, lesson learned, now onto the Fish Bone tomorrow night. Here's hoping you get what you pay for and the next meal hits the spot.

“Local spot, fresh fish, and great views!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We stayed at Seabreeze Apartments in Pos Chiquitos over the Christmas holiday 2012, and the owner (Joey) recommended Zeerover in Savaneta as a good, affordable, local spot to dine. This is off the beaten track, if you're staying in the resorts or used to hand/foot service but if you want a taste of the local atmosphere and fish fresh off the boat, this place is for you. My husband is from the UK and claimed the chips to be one of the best he's had in awhile - we live in NYC. You line-up at the entrance, select your fish and sides from one window, then select your drinks and pay at the next window and find a spot to sit near the sea and wait for your number to be called. Everything is fried but not in a terrible fast-food type of way. If you're lucky, a local fisherman will be off-loading his catch while you're enjoying your meal. Sit back with a Balashi and take it all in.
