“Must visit during monsoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

This is one of the most memorable trips I have ever been to. We started trekking from Malavali Rly stn and had a great time on the way with slight rain, hot tea and a great company. The fort has stunning views from all over the place. Visit to Vinchu Kata was an unforgettable experience and is a must visit once you get to the top of the fort. The jhunka bhakar available at the footsteps of the fort is simply mind blowing and I would highly recommend trying it. Ideal place to visit during monsoons for a one day trip with friends and/or family. Must carry a camera and real good walking shoes.

“Good monsoon trek for beginners and nice fortification”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

This fort is close to Malavali station nearby Bhaje caves. It is the best for monsoon. Trek begins from the Malavali Railway station and a lot of trekkers from Pune and Mumbai visit this fort in monsoon time. Climbing till the top of fort takes around 2 to 2.5 hours.
Now Tar road is newly constructed for last 20-30% patch. People can go till the base village of fort by car. Road is not in good shape so drive carefully.

Highlight of fort is Vinchukata (Scorpion's tail) which reminds us of 'Sanjeevni Machi 'of Rajgad fort. It is 1500m long & 30m wide part of the mountain, separated from the main part. Viewing from the fort this portion looks like scorpion’s sting and hence it is called 'Vinchu Kata'. Take proper care while going towards Vinchu kata as path is too narrow with open valley on one side.
There are many places to see on fort. First entrance door is known as Ganesh darwaja (Lord Ganesh entrance gate). Other entrance gates in sequence are Narayan darwaja, Hanuman Darwaja and last entrance gate is known as Maha-Darwaja. You can visit Shiv temple and Laxmi kothi (caves which was used to store loot from Surat).

Food is available at the base village of fort known as Lohagadwadi. Home stay option is also
available there.
If you are on picnic and driving by car till base rather than trek then you can also cover Bhaje caves.

“Trek to lohagad is not an easy one if you are starting from base but can do it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

I travelled from Mumbai to lonavala by train ( book it in advance if you want a seat).
Ticket would cost you around Rs55 to Rs. 65 .
From Lonavala to Malavli travel to local train ( Local train will once in ahour so plan your train from mumbai to Lonavala accordinlgy or else you will end up waiting for the local train).
Local train ticlet from Lonaval to Malavli is Rs 5.

From Malavli to Bhaja vilage you can either go by walk or take an auto. Auto would cost you Rs 15 per person. The auto wil leave at Bhaja vilage from there you can start the Trek.
There are shops in between to buy chai, snacks, food, water.
