If you haven't been to have dinner at this delightful restaurant, and you enjoy Indonesian food (although there are other, equally good non-Indonesian dishes available), then you haven't sampled the best food Cairns has to offer! This delightful restaurant (The Star Apple), is tucked away at the southern corner of Sims Esplanade, within the relaxing and exotic sound of the lapping waves of Yorkey's Knob Beach. We attended a birthday dinner here and several of us ordered the Indonesian-style 'Rieststaffel' (in Dutch, literally: 'Rice Table'), a miscellany of authentic, delicious Indonesian dishes served over three courses, including the ever-popular beef Rendang, spicy steamed fish and coconut in Pandanus leaf parcels, and many other tasty morsels!. The ambiance of Star Apple is one of exotic, understated elegance: you feel like you are dining out of doors and in a way you are, because the restaurant is open on three sides. The service was excellent and the food is to die for! This little gem of a place is run by an obliging Australian gentleman and his Indonesian partner, who is the chef. The wine list is extensive, the prices reasonable. This restaurant has to be one of Cairns best-kept secrets - until now! I suggest you book if you intend to patronise this restaurant. It is well worth the trip out from Cairns City to the northern beaches (Yorkey's Knob). Open for dinner every day, except Monday.
