This is the second time we have used this particular Travelodge, and found the facilities clean & excellent in all respects. Staff are very friendly & helpful, & the proximity of the very excellent "Church Mouse" pub & restaurant for dinner, make this the perfect, economical venue.

I know it's fashionable to be ultra picky in hotel reviews but I'm not going to follow fashion. I needed to stay close to Durham County Cricket Club (about 2 miles away from this hotel) as I was working there Monday. Went up on the Sunday. Free parking. Friendly woman on reception. Nice spacious room. Clean and tidy. Hotel is literally attached to a Vintage Inns country pub (you enter the pub through an adjoining door. Key fob to get back in is provided! Had meal in pub. Nice fish pie and salad for a tenner. Excellent pint of Black Sheep, hand pulled real ale (£3.04). Helpful staff at checkout. All round a good experience. Booked the room a couple of weeks in advance for £50. Ok its not the Ritz but as a clean, friendly, quiet (it was a Sunday tbh) place to rest up, have a bite to eat, a pint and rest your head I can't in all honesty find any fault at all.

We stayed here for three nights and the room we had was No 6. The bed was comfy and the sheets, bedding etc, very clean. The whole room was clean including the shower. The view from our room was excellent, country side, a field with shetland ponies and goldfinches in the tree outside our window, our room was at the back, so it was also very quiet.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was to much trouble. We did try the Church Mouse pub, but did not find the staff there very friendly.
The travel lodge is about 2 miles from Chester le street and well worth a visit and walkable if you want to leave the car.
The only thing that did spoil our stay a bit, was the noisy family in room 19 above us, who thought it quite exceptable to have their young child wake people up at 4.30 by jumping around and again in the evening. I would like to ban families who do not know how to behave when staying in hotels.
The Wicket Gate is a weather spoon pub, reasonably priced and friendly enough staff, but don't expect your plate to be cleared away, they don't appear to clear plates away in this weatherspoon pub.
Plenty of buses to and from the travel lodge, for chester le street, but we suggest the park & ride for going into Durham town, the cost on the bus is a bit high.
We will use this travel lodge again.

Room Tip: Be aware noisy families can be in rooms upstairs as these are family rooms and ask for a room at the...

I am so angry at Travelodge. I literally booked a date to stay here 2 hours ago and realised i had misread the wedding invitation and cannot cancel the booking and get my money back. The man on the phone at this hotel was sparmy and rude. I am never booking with travelodge again, i think this is a ridiculous policy.

We recently stayed here whilst attending a wedding reception at the castle which was very convenient as it was just 4 mins down the road. The seperate pub added extra convenience for food and with 2 children with us was perfect (food a tad over priced but still very good)

The room was a family room and just had all the bases covered, reception and staff were friendly.

I wouldnt advise anyone to use this hotel, the staff are rude and abrupt!!!
My bedroom was dirty, with plastic cups in the bathroom having been used before as they had toothpaste around the bottom.
The facilites were not up to scratch the lamp had black burn marks all over it,
we were placed in a room right next to the staff room where all we could here all night was the staff room door banging and members of staff talking.

AWFUL PLACE

Room Tip: Dont choose a room here at all
