“A beautiful and proper country style house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2010

We really enjoyed staying at the Sweetwater Trout farm. TThe house is way off the main road and surrounded by fields and a blanket of quietness. Even so, it was very near to St Ives and Penzance (by car).

Jill is a lovely host, very warm and welcoming. Serving up a fantastic breakfast. It very much felt like a home from home.

Gill was just the best, really friendly and welcoming and yet not intrusive. The house and grounds are just gorgeous, beautifully decorated, comfortable. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms have claw foot tubs. Breakfast alone was worth the money: fresh smoothies, juice, coffee, cereals, fresh bread, the usual English breakfast in huge amounts, and easy conversation. Price was reasonable too. Gill is building holiday cottages apparently, and I will definitely be back when those are in!

The only drawback (and to me it isn't a drawback) was the long dirt road that is essentially the driveway. We thought we were lost but the GPS got it right! I loved the fact that we felt we were miles away from civilisation and yet we were minutes from St. Ives. We had the most lovely visit and can't wait to go back.

The house and rooms are exactly like the photos on the internet, both on LateRooms and on its own website. I've added some of my own in case there's any doubt!

As we needed two rooms,we booked the two non-ensuite bedrooms and shared the bathroom. This was a good solution as we didn't have to share with anybody we didn't know. The bathroom is very spacious and has a fantastic bath and shower cubicle. All the rooms are extremely comfortable, tastefully furnished and have everything you could expect in a B&B. Be aware that the ensuite bathroom only has a bath - no shower.

Breakfast is at the same time for everybody (but can be earlier or later on request)around the big table in the kitchen. The food is delicious (including homemade smoothies and fruit salad as well as cooked stuff) and the atmosphere friendly and relaxed. Gill, the owner, cooks the food in front of you and spends plenty of time chatting with everybody. The two dogs and the cat are also very friendly.

The house is surrounded by countryside and has a few ponds around it which are ideal for a short walk, sitting next to or having a picnic by. St Ives is a couple of miles away.

All in all, it's a fantastic place and I wouldn't hesitate to return.

This place is fabulous. The cosy, atmospheric farmhouse, the setting in the countryside down a pond-lined lane full of flowers, the beautiful decor, the copious breakfast round the big farmhouse kitchen table, all cooked before your very eyes. Great little place just a ten minute drive outside St Ives. The photos on the website are absolutely true to life. It even has WiFi internet!!!!

  • Liked — decor, atmosphere, breakfast
  • Disliked — better to come here if you have a car but not impossible
