“Not Great, not Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

This being an Intercontinental property it falls short as the hotel misses the mark with with regard to other Intercontinental hotels I have stayed at in the past. Yes the hotel needs updating, the facilities such as the spa, pool, gym need a good updating. That said I was up-sold by the front desk to a suit on the exclusive 9th floor and the price was incredible compared to the huge suit and the service on this floor...a really good value.

What was disappointing were the little things, such as the worn down condition of the room, no safe, very poor wireless service as it crashes for some reason, bathroom needs work and the AC unit is loud.

As safety is everything in this part of the world I did have the feeling that the hotel places a high focus on keeping their guests safe.

Room Tip: Priority Club members can upgrade to the 9th floor rooms at a very attractive rate that includes bre...

I stayed here at the request of a client to visit their factory, and this was one of two hotels that were approved for their employees to stay for safety reasons. Had a great room rate because of the amount of business the client does with this facility. The staff was really nice, had a little hard time speaking with one of the waitress's in the lounge trying to get a glass a wine one night but I put some of that issue on me for not being to speak the Spanish but all other staff members there was no issues.. The breakfast buffet was included in my excellent room rate and they had a nice variety of things to choose from. I ate at the hotel as well; they have higher end restaurant and a normal one. The food at booth was good, the higher end restaurant the experience was very nice maybe a bit overpriced but an enjoyable. The area seemed pretty safe; co-workers would travel around the area in pairs if they wanted to go to the local stores or food places. In other reviews, people talk about being an older hotel but I have been in a WHOLE lot worse that needed more of an upgrade than this hotel did. I would stay here again.

As every big old hotel it needs renovation. The rooms are usually smelling bad when you turn the a/c on. But it is located in the best zone of Monterrey, has good services and a very good price compared to the same quality in other countries.
For the number of foreigners that the hotel receives, I would expect a more international breakfast than the traditional mexican style (no ham, cheese, etc - but tacos...)

Just an Ok business hotel, location is good, service decent and rooms just for sleeping. It is all a bit old and run down.

It does have a nice bar with friendly service and will probably be back since its location is perfect.

It is a bit old that could get a face lift.

The IC is an older property despite updates still is not at the usual quality of other IC's . The location is good but with the current levels of violence you won't be able to take advantage. The menu's strength in the restaurant and room service is the Mexican food and I'd not stray from that strength as the other menu items are not good. The service is polite and efficient but not always friendly.

I attended a work commitment in Monterrey which was held in the hotel's facilities. When I arrived, the room I was assigned had a foul smell smoke coming out of the air conditioning. At the time of report at the reception, I was assigned another room in less than five minutes. All rooms have been remodeled and now have flat TV screen, new furniture, a good shower and a very nice bed .... a classic of the SPG family(Starwood). VERY GOOD! Later the event was held at the hotel was conducted with very high quality and contingencies were treated with a remarkable follow up and excellence in the details. Definitely a hotel I recommend!

Room Tip: Higher floor.... less lobby noise!

While we had a few problems, overall, we enjoyed our stay. Yes, it's a little dated and some things are in need of replacing, but things are high-end for the most part. We changed rooms because they had talked us into an upgrade - we were tired when we checked in and just wanted to check in. The next day we realized the upgrade was way too much for what we would use ($60/day for free breakfast and supper for 3 people along with a room on an exclusive floor) so we changed rooms to a non-exclusive floor. The first room was the exact same except the bed was firm as opposed to soft with body indententations and the safe worked. We also had trouble with the lock on the door not reading cards. But through it all, the staff was very helpful and courteous. They said that the 2 beds were queen sized, but they weren't. The "free" breakfast in the upgrade wasn't as nice as the breakfast buffet offered downstairs in the restaurant. We had been given some complimentary tickets for the buffet at check-in and found it to be wonderful: freshly made tortillas, eggs and waffles; a nice variety of warm dishes; fruits, cheeses and sliced meats; cereals and sweet breads. We didn't use the fitness floor, but did visit it and found it nice and barely used. The view was spectacular - we left the curtains open at night so that we could see the city lights from our bed - and it was very quiet. The mall across the street is huge and offers a lot to do and eat, including a grocery store.
