“Paradise location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

Found this place on the 1st rank in Tripadvisor..and the price per night is very budget-friendly.
Well knowing the huts are in the jungle, we expected lizards in the room, which we dont mind. For some it can be an issue - but we didnt know about the monkeys, the rats or the wild dogs on the Island. The hotel warns you about them, when you check in, which we thought was a funny feature. For some it might be an issue.
The huts are placed on a hill, so if you're inmobil or can't manage climbing stairs, this isn't the place for you.
To get there, we went from Koh Ngai to Lanta and from Lanta with a longtail we booked through the hotel, because we werent able to make it at time with the ferry.
When we left, we went with a longtail and got on the ferry to Krabi, in the middle of the sea, which worked out very well.
PROS:
-Amazing location with a stunning view over the jungle and the sea.
-Only noice you will hear is the jungle and the animals.
-Food and drinks are very well made
-The staff is extremely friendly, they are laughing all day long and joking around with their guests. You'll only see BIG smiles from them.
The service they give to their customers is why they are on the 1st rank in Tripadvisor, i believe.
-Mr Boy's bar is the best place to watch the sunset from and Mr Boy is a loving, caring and funny guy who we spend some good times with.
-The beach (not the sea) is beautiful with powdery sand, many crabs and cozy sea-huts to relax in.
-When we needed a scooter with automatic gears, the hotel arranged it in 10 minutes (though they charged us 100 baht extra for the delivery...and didnt offer us to rent it for half a day, (which we found out other guests did) instead of 24 hours, so we could have saved some money when we just used it 5 hours)

CONS:
-Holes in the mosquitonet, which caused two nights with different insects in the bed with us.
-The rooms could use a good makeover and forexample close the BIG gaps in the floor, so you cant see the bare ground underneath you...and so the insects cant get into your room + a really good cleaning and maybe some white painting inside, so you can see what kind of insects you're sharing the room with.
-No aircon...but a fan though.
-The sea is not good for anything else than to cool of on shallow waters. Many rocks and too unclear to see anything when snorkling.
-The hotel charges 80 baht per kilo laundry. 1,5 km from the hotel they charge 40 baht per kilo.

Ok confession one. I'm very bad a getting around to writing reviews so this review is for Dec 2011. Firstly, if you're looking for the bright white sand and towering Karsts of the tourist brochure, move along (quietly please) because thats the the thing about this island....no loud parties, irritating truastafarians, or lobster coloured package tourists, just hammocks, day beds and peace and quiet. The resort food is good quality and great value. Take a wander northwards to Onlee for a classier bite and the best beach bar. Nothing is too much trouble, be it arranging a boats to and from or a taxi down to the town (you can walk it if you want allow a few hours). I recommend hiring a kayak from somewhere and taking a paddle down the beach as well. The real Thai friendless and warmth is on display in abundance around here and I promise you really won't want to leave. Just don't come expecting an antispetically clean five star resort with hot running water.

Room Tip: Top of the hill facing the ocean!!

We stayed here for 2 nights in the honeymoon hut 1. The view from this hut is amazing, specially the sunset and when you wake up and look outside. Romantic! The room is a little bit old (but we compare it with the neighbours Oonlee resort, they are newer). Food was good and cheaper then the other place. We really loved the hammocks at the beach!

We stayed at Ting Rai Bay for 12 nights and had a wonderful time. The place invites you to relax and if you prepare yourself for just that, you will have a great stay.
The reservation process was easy, a few emails to Khun Taam and everything was organized including pickup in Krabi, ferry and return transfer to the airport.
We stayed in Bungalow 1, which is near the restaurant and the beach, thus avoiding the many steps. The Bungalow was rustic and very nice.Large bathroom and bedroom and a balcony, where we spend many hours enjoying the views of the beach and the sea. Wifi worked well and the fan was sufficient to keep a decent temperature at night. The bungalow was cleaned efficiently every day.
The restaurant was OK, but more thai dishes and maybe a reduction of prices would attract more guests.
The staff are all very friendly and helpsome and it seems like Khun Taam has got everything organized well.
We rented a car with driver, which took us on a round-the-island tour where we visited the three villages and had a super lunch at Bo Daeng, a small restaurant at Andaman beach. Actually we visited the restaurant a few days later, this time by longtail boat.
The beach at the resort is OK, but not perfect for swimming, as the stretch of sand is limited, espececially at low tide. If you want to relax and sun bath it's fine.
All in all, I can highly recommend this place and I am sure we will be back

Room Tip: Choose a bungalow as close to the beach as possible

We stayed there in January 2014 for a week and everything was absolutely perfect though we had to move from one bungalow to another two times as I wrote to the owner only two days before the arrival. However even that was easy. The place is absolutely marvelous, hidden and beautiful. The service is good as everybody smiles and tries to do whatever they can to please you. The beach is not very big but clean, sandy and wide enough to walk, to swim or just sit.
The restaurant is also good, not very cheap but how it can be cheap if you have to bring everything from Krabi by boat?
We hope to come next year.

We spent 6 days at one of the honeymoon huts and it was a great experience. The bungalow was spacious, clean and provided a good night's sleep. The view from the porch, overlooking the Andaman Sea and the Phi-Phi islands, was majestic.

The area itself was well maintained, with pretty landscaping and charming communal buildings. The whole place had a nice "Crusoe-esque" vibe. We visited all the different beaches in Koh Jum, and the one at Ting Rai Bay was definitely the nicest. Quite rocky during low-tide, but still swimmable. Boi and his beach bar was a great place to watch sunsets with a drink in your hand.

Staff was friendly and attentive, with Taam, the owner, a really helpful source of information.

If you want to explore the surroundings, walk a little further on the road behind the resort, passing the Oonlee Bungalows. You will get a nice view of the hillside jungles and an open view to the highest hill on Koh Jum/Koh Pu.

Room Tip: The higher up, the better view. Bungalows on the norther side have less foot traffic.

My husband called this Paradise.
After the new year celebrations we booked Ting Rai as a retreat. The boat from Koh Lanta met up, mid sea, with a long tail boat. What an experience this was. After the chaotic coming and going which I am sure the crew knew exactly what they were doing, we transferred over to the longtail and it took us to the resort. As the resort came into view my thoughts were of a mountain of trees and that we would be climbing up steps forever.
The resort was made up of Cane, Bamboo and very thick wooden furniture...extremely rustic with man-made steps (some of which were a little iffy) leading to spacious wooden bungalows on stilts. A large restaurant on different levels, with a good variety of food, over looking the beautiful beach of pure white sand,
From the time we arrived the staff were fantastic, so helpful and humorous.
On the beach were hammocks, swings, deck chairs and wooden sun-huts to watch the most fantastic sunsets. Altogether a most idyllic island and resort.
The last night we were offered the honeymoon suite which was at the top of the 'mountain'. Although there were many steps to climb, the view was just magnificent and stunning so it was definitely worth the effort.
The only downside for us was that there were no other restaurants, so therefore we had to eat at the resort for every meal, although we have to say that the food was always very good
I understood that the resort did not take children under the age of 3 but there were a number of families with young babies which did have an impact on our time spent at the resort....therefore I would say that this resort is a must for adults 'only', to relax .
We enjoyed it so much that we will definitely be visiting again in the future and would recommend it to anyone wanting a really idyllic holiday.

Room Tip: Request a bungalow nearest to the sea as there are not as many steps to climb.
