“Beautiful little Goan palace located on the magical Divar Island!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2011

This little hidden gem on Divar Island is definitely worth a visit and stay. Jump on a free ferry from old goa and take a short trip to Divar Island, and the Divar guest house. Step back in time and experience the old goan times...

This family run guest house is not only a little palace but the hospitality is amazing! Jan, Arati, and the girls you were the perfect hosts! And helping to put up your Christmas decorations will always be remembered, although slightly bizarre in 30 degree heat! Haha!! You guys are great! It was lovely meeting you, until next Christmas hey? :O))) Raj and Toby! PS... The most incredible beds = the best sleep ever! Pps: Hope you all enjoyed your Christmas and New Year

We have been to various places & various hotels as we travel a lot. Even in GOA we have been to other hotels but our search stopped at "Divar Island Guest House Retreat". where we had stayed for a couple of days in the starting of the new year and it was a great experience.

It was a more kind of feel like home, as they helped us in every possible way whether it be customized foods & drinks (Continental), Customized Accommodation, Pick & Drop facilities, Shopping. sight seeing etc at a very affordable prices.

We would love to visit them again for a longer stay.

We stumbled across this hidden gem by crossing paths with the Owner in Mumbai Airport.

The guest house is charming and creatively renovated to accommodate guests who are looking for an authentic Goan experience away from the more touristic resorts of North Goa.

There are approximately 10 double bed rooms with newly fitted, modern en suite bathrooms. The rooms are simply decorated, spacious and air conditioned (which was greatly welcomed in the humid hot months of May). The house is nipping clean and well maintained by the live in friendly staff who are eager to help, should you need it.

Old Goa is approximately 5-10mins away by car across the Mandovi River and Panjim is approximately 15-20mins drive.

The house is colonial in style with a beautiful and spacious entrance/reception area, swimming pool and front and back gardens. If you're lucky enough to sample the home grown mango's, do! They're like nothing we've ever tasted.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Divar Island guest house and feel fortunate to have met and shared our holiday with the owners.

When I booked the hotel / resort I had never heard of it earlier, location too I was not convinced if it would be ideal to roam around in Goa. But I pleasantly surprised after spending 4 days of my honeymoon here. It was not just good resort for starters, it was spacious too.

Cottages were simple though clean
staff was courteous and did every bit to give whatever best they could

Resort lacks facilities like sports, gym, shopping area etc. which is acceptable as its budget resort.

Restaurant and food options were decent. Eating @ lake side jetty was good experience.

Travelling to city was bit difficult, but hotel arrangements ensured avaibility of CABs or motorbikes when needed in short time.

Small families and couples who would like to spend time peaceful time here and do not want Sea-View, for them its a good budget resort, where you can spend 1 or 2 extra days for the same cost you pay for small hotel or resort in sea-view in GOA

We were staying in Panjim Inn, Panjim and we decided to visit the island of Divar, a short ferry ride across the river from Old Goa. About 15mins from Panjim. There is a small village on the island and a Ayurvedic Spa Resort on the other side. While we were driving through the village we were struck by this beautiful house. My wife wanted me to stop while she took a photo and at that moment the owner came out and invited us in. It was so nice that we check out of Panjim Inn the following day and moved in.

They have a lovely swimming pool. In the mornings a Kingfisher comes and visits the swimming pool looking for something to eat (but they cover the pool at night to stop frogs and stuff falling in). It was cleaned everyday by a dedicated attendant.

Overlooking this pool is a veranda where you can eat. At the end of the veranda is a bar. All very civilised. The owners are delightful. They were so hospitable that we kept delaying our departure for three extra nights!

Definitely the highlight of the holiday. It was so peaceful with greenery all around. No traffic at all. They have vehicles so they can collect you from the ferry or even arrange for you to be dropped in Panjim. The staff were excellent. Very polite and attentive. The atmosphere is far more homely than a hotel. My son (7) loved swimming in pool and playing with the children of the house.

We are planning to stay there next time we go to Goa. We ate out mostly but when we ate in the guest house the food was very good. They have 8 very comfortable rooms and the ground floor rooms are accessible by wheelchair including the bathroom (which is unusual in India). The linen and furniture is really good quality. The village is very nice and un-spoilt by tourism. No shops or bars. Very nice to walk around without being in danger of being run-over. The hallway is huge and because it is open plan to the roof it creates a very pleasant cool atmosphere in the house.

Near by is Old Goa where you catch the ferry from. Then another island next to this is where there is a bird sanctuary (Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary). Here you can hire a boat for Rs 900 (seating upto 12). They supply life-jackets if you want them. Its best to go early in the morning, ideally between 6-7.30am and take a guided tour through the mangroves. We saw an amazing variety of birds and boat trip was in itself very pleasant even if you are not interested in birds. Beautiful scenery as you go down the river and into the Mangrove. Old Goa is also lovely with all its old churches.

The Ferry ride is very short and very regular so even if you go out for eating and drinking in town there are ferries until the early hours. It only cost Rs7 for our car from Old Goa). We enjoyed the Ferry rides seeing all the locals and the river.

The beaches of Panjim and Anjuna are close by (Anjuna is about 40 mins including the Ferry ride).
