We found the website misleading. Nowhere did it state that some of the rooms were reached by having to go outside to get to them. These outside rooms were small, the bath towels didn’t go round the waist and appeared to be “light grey”. There was only one hand towel and no glasses in the bathroom. The self help tea and coffee facilities didn’t have any biscuits. We ate in the pub. The food was average but served on cold plates so our meals became cold quite quickly. Breakfast was also average and served in a cottage over the road – again not mentioned on the website or when we booked. The trains in the tunnel that goes under the pub kept waking us up.The charge of £80 B&B was too much – We would barely justify a cost of £60. We will not be returning and neither will we recommend this pub.

Room Tip: We suggest you find another establishment

I've been using this pub since I was a child. I've never had a bad meal there. The menu is extensive with anything from homey pies, to pasta, or fresh fish. The staff are so friendly and go out of their way to make the visit pleasurable. Landlord and landlady Joan and John have been running this pub for 30 years this year and are doing a grand job. It really is one of the few 'traditional' English pubs left. Great character, ambiance, lovely food and friendly staff!

We use the pub about once a month for a reliable meal out. It is traditional British pub and serves an excellent range of food. Hot food served on hot plates with a smile - and friendly bar staff. This is not a noisy pub with hoards of noisy children running about, we love it. Most meals are under £10 for a main course.

After trying the other pubs local to this one we gave this ago as they others were bland & tasteless.
I cant get over the massive range of meals this pub offered. From fresh tuna or shark steaks to traditional chicken or ham & eggs with chips. It may seem a tad expensive at 1st for a pub meal, £9.95 for chicken fried in garlic butter & chips, but when it comes & you see and taste the plate full with crispy chips & juicy, tender, fresh pan fried chicken breasts, yes, breasts not just one, you are sure to walk away happy & full! Also try the curry sauce, proper traditional fish & chips curry sauce made from scratch with all the little bits & not from the packet. Will definately be going there again!

We were on our way to Nailsworth to visit friends and decided to pop in for a meal to save inconveniencing our guests when to arrived at our destination. There was a lovely ambiance about the place, with friendly staff and a beautiful log fire. The food that we had was reasonably priced and was hot and tasty and I must admit that we could have easily settled down there rather than carry on with our journey. We most definitely will be back in the near future!

Room Tip: Only ate in the restaurant / bar

There is no doubt that we were tired after flying from Quito in Ecuador via Amsterdam and having driven from the Holiday Inn Heathrow along the M4 at night and wondered where to have something to eat and a rest. Turning off the A46 at the Old Sodbury traffic lights we motored a further mile to be welcomed with the sign on the side of this pub and decided to try it. The ambience of the beams and stone walls, well stocked bar and a lovely log fire was a joy to behold. The wine and cider complemented the food which was good pub food beautifully cooked and presented hot to the table.

There was plenty of chatter and a real friendly welcome after a long journey. My wife and I not only enjoyed the experience but intend to go there again sometime as it is only 20 miles from our home.
