“Good place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

We stayed here one night as it was close to the tidal bore rafting I had booked for the following day. We were well looked after by Joan and John and they made us feel welcome. We arrived just before the only restaurant nearby closed so Joan advised us to go straight there and let them know we were coming.

We arrived, exhausted, after a long drive in the pouring rain to learn that the only restaurant in town was not open. Joan, who was entertaining friends from out of town, graciously offered to toss some extra veggies into the stir-fry she was preparing to save us a trip to Truro. Priceless! She and John also persuaded my reluctant spouse to join me on the tidal bore rafting trip (River Runners) the next day and even provided brown towels for our post dunking shower. The rafting trip was a highlight of our vacation. Highly recommended.

Following a very favourable recommendation from a fellow Trip Advisor, we stayed one night in June during our tour of Nova Scotia. Joan and John did all they could to make us feel at home and provided an excellent breakfast before we left. We would thoroughly recommend the Foley House as an easy to find, convenient and convivial guesthouse.
Maitland is a very quiet area but fortunately the one restaurant within walking distance was open (believe this is not always the case - we were lucky). The viewing point for the bore is not too far away - on the road to Truro, but we were a bit disappointed with it, we were expecting it to be like the Severn Bore in the UK. Perhaps we were not there are the right time for a good experience.

We stayed three nights at the end of a month-long trip. Joan and John Walker, our hosts, are wonderful people. Helpful and friendly, without being intrusive. The room was comfortable, and as visitors, we felt at home. Joan is an excellent cook - great breakfasts (with some home-made preserves) and she prepared dinner for the three resident groups one evening (for an extra charge, of course). There was only one restaurant in operation at the time of our visit,(late September) which was not open every evening.
Maitland, Nova Scotia is a small town, but at one time was a large ship-building centre. The history of the town is interesting.

We arrived at Foley House in the afternoon and found it to be a comfortable, well furnished house with a nice garden and a front porch where we could catch up with our reading after a couple of active days. What was different about Maitland was that we were told that all restaurant's in town had closed because of end of season and we would have a lengthy trip to find an open one. To the rescue came the B&B owner and she offered to cook dinner for us at a very reasonable cost. Aside from the delicious dinner and wine, our room was very comfortable and the breakfast was satisfying. The very fact that the owner cared enough to go to the trouble of preparing a dinner for us shows the attention given by the owner to the comfort and convenience of her guests. We recommend Foley House for a comfortable stay.

We spent two nights here after a flight from England and just thoroughly enjoyed it. Our hosts Joan and John were great and we really loved the peace and quiet of Maitland. Just felt welcome and comfortable and Joan was happy to provide an evening meal when we discovered the only local restaurant was closed without notice one night. Thank you, Clive and Marilyn.

My husband and I were visiting Nova Scotia and stayed with Joan and John at The Foley House. Our bedroom was spacious, clean and very comfortable - the B & B was full but we had a really nice evening visiting with the other guests. Joan and John were friendly and gracious hosts, and breakfast was very good.
