“Well beyond normal service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2012

We had a walk around town to find a decent hostel and immediately liked Bay View, from the bright exterior to the huge and spotless pool and the perfect English speaking owner Santiago. Once in we got the feeling we were special, I imagine just like anyone else staying, and it felt great, especially after some of the treatment we had encountered previously.

The hostel is well situated within 5 minutes of the beach and the town. It has an airy spacious feeling with comfortable rooms and beds, a big TV room, good kitchen, Bar, free Book swap, good accessable wi-fi, breakfast is decent too, excellent common area partly shaded with a pool table and table soccer and an amazing pool (the best pool we have seen in any hostel). The staff do a great job of keeping everything clean, even down to the daily pool clean! The atmosphere is great, with plenty of chance to get to know the other guests as well as the likeable staff.

Santiago used to be a Diving instructor and is extremely knowledgable on the local dive shops, he even has an arrangement with Octopuss Diving (the best dive school in town), he doesn't push it though. The hostel is also reknown for it's Friday night parties, which are excellent, especially when Santiago puts the bar-b-que on, he even has live bands playing!

After a few days we had a quick look on here and were amazed to see some of the negative reviews, something must have changed as we spent quite a bit of time in the hostel (that dang pool) and saw everything was being run extremely professionally.

We ended up spending a week here and had a wonderful time, and should we ever return to Taganga we will definately stay here.

A couple of the dorms have aircon but the privates don't, but it didn't bother us as they have fans which do the job just fine.

Thanks Santiago and all your staff.

This is a good place to party. The parties on friday nights are definately worth going too. I found the owner, Santiago to be very hospitable. Above and beyond how other owners have been. The rest of the staff are very nice too.

My only gripe was that the rooms were hot, and that if you have a room on the ground floor you may have a problem with ants. if staying in a dorm I recommend the one with air con.

After reading all the past reviews which rate this as a terrible hostel I left with no complaints. Breakfast is served everyday and they even ask before you venture out for the day if u ate. There are self service storage lockers with someone always on duty. Just lock up your valuables with your own lock and no problems whatsoever. This staff was English speaking and extremely helpful with information on taganga, getting to the park, as well as booking any further travels. Diego, the owner of the hostel, has definitely sorted this place out and is a good place to stay. Great place to stay up talking til the wee hrs of the mrng by the pool.

I wish I had read the reviews of this hostel before staying here!

Our valuables were stolen from the locked storage room by a staff member and the owner took no responsibility whatsoever, not even giving the guy´s name to the Police. He also said this has never happened before but now that I have read previous reviews of Bayview I realise it is a much more common occurance than we thought.

In addition, there are loud parties every Friday that are open to anyone off the street, there is a lot of drug dealing going on by the owner and staff, and rooms are like concrete boxes (though this could be the least of your worries).

Again, DONT STAY HERE

Some of the things the hostel promises and completely and utterly fails to deliver: the hostel does not "include breakfast", there is none at all not even to pay for. There may be a TV room but no DVD player to play the "huge DVD library". There isn't a jukebox or video game consoles. While there is a hostel van it doesn't actually get used at all so no free ride to town. There is a good kitchen, there is a nice pool and while there is a bar this is only open occasionally so no chance of lazing in the pool with a cocktail. There are computers for internet but you have to pay for them. So not exactly the dazzling array of services promised except as an idea in the owners head that he could do! Also like an earlier review I also now of quite a few peoples things going missing with the owner at first promising to deal with the issue then denying all knowledge and shouting at the poor people whose stuff got stolen when the asked him to follow through on his promises. Think thats the problem with this place all round all promise and no commitment to deliver but charging as though it had been delivered

By Taganga standards, this place is top notch. The pool here deserves about a million stars, and the common area was great, but the room itself left much to be desired (and by much, I mean all). The music was deafening until 2 am, the sheets weren't super clean and didn't stay on the uncomfortable bed, and the room was like an oven. My friend's bed actually collapsed between the slats holding it up, and no amount of MacGyvering was able to rig it back up. So that was interesting.

I would not recommend taking their bus to Tayrona. It was supposed to leave at 9:30, but did not leave Taganga until 11, and didn't get to Tayrona until 2. It was as though it was in some sort of time vortex.

This place was the most horrible hostel in all of Colombia and Ecuador in our experience. Totally overpriced, noisy and uncomfortable. They don´t even give you towels! The sheets on the bed aren´t fitted, just top sheets so they slide when you are sleeping and you find yourself laying on bare yucky mattress!! DONT STAY
