“Central location in delightful town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

The hotel is in the centre of the delightful town of Bungay. We had a pleasant welcome on arrival, and were shown to the characterful Mettingham room for our one night stay. It is an old building and the floors are a bit sloped and the stairs up to the rooms are very steep. The room is full of character, with exposed beams, and nicely decorated and furnished. There is a small seating area, and a useful folder of information provided. Everything was clean, although I thought the carpet was looking quite stained. The en suite bathroom was clean and had a decent over-bath shower (although fixed rather than removable); the toiletries were provided in large pump-bottles, not in small individual-use bottles.
The provision of bottled water in the room (as well as tea/coffee making) was a nice touch, and the wi-fi worked very well in the room.
We had an evening meal in the restaurant, which was quite busy (even on a weekday) and of a good standard.
The cooked breakfast was excellent – locally sources products, cooked to order, and everything on the plate was piping hot.

This was our 1st stay in Bungay. What a little gem. The Castle Inn is excellent and the staff very accommodating, especially Jenny. We originally tried to book 2 nights, but they only had a room for 1 night; we booked and asked them to let us know if a 2nd night should become available - which Tanya did.
The evening meal was lovely and whilst out the following day, our suitcases were moved to a new room for us. The Inn has an old world charm about it. Not cheap, but well worth treating yourselves!

I ate here around Feb 2014.

Having eaten off the December set menu I was expecting good things as I had a very good meal in December 13.

I ordered the lamb along with my girlfriend, presuming this would be similar to my meal in December. It was not, it was very plain, served on top of some mash & was relatively tasteless. On top of this the 'side vegetables' accounted for 1/2 a carrot and 1/2 a parsnip each, so literally 1 carrot and 1 parsnip between 2 people, which I felt was particularly stingy. I had the lamb in Dec with a group and were served bowls of veg, so had plenty then compared to my latest visit.

After not feeling very full after the main we felt we had to order dessert, which I believe was sticky toffee pudding or something along those lines, probably one of the better parts of the meal, but at £6 or £7 each, it should be.

Overall nothing particularly bad, but a bit disappointing knowing I had an excellent meal only a few months prior with a large group (where you think it would be harder to cater), will find it hard to return here unfortunately as the setting is nice.

This was our second stay attending a family wedding in the Town. If you want a real Inn, with first class food and service near Bungay this is the place to stay. We had dinner on our first night from the new menu and it was exceptional; breakfast on both mornings was first class and they were very happy to serve us a full breakfast an hour early on the last day as we had to leave to get back to work.

We stayed in the Wingfield room again which has been refurbished since last December - great character with a sofa and a full bath with shower over, really recommended.

All the staff here without exception seem dedicated to making your stay special - they really care about the place and it really shows. This Inn deserves all the success possible.

Looking forward to our next stay!

A very warm greeting on arrival and an excellent bedroom. Our room was Caister. It was spotless with excellent bathroom. Our breakfast was top class and local produce was used. Our only regret is that we only stayed one night. WE SHALL RETURN FOR LONGER!

We stayed at the Castle the other night, after meeting friends there for supper - delightful all round. The food was delicious - good local stuff, well cooked and nicely presented.
Our room was very clean and comfortable, with tea, coffee hot choc facilities, TV etc. The staff were extremely pleasant and efficient; I think the helpful man we dealt with was also the chef (excellent!) and we had a wonderful breakfast, too, with extremely good local produce. We'll defintely book there again next time we're in the area.

Room Tip: When I booked I was asked what kind of room we wanted. As all rooms cost the same I asked for 't...
