The hotel is in the centre of the delightful town of Bungay. We had a pleasant welcome on arrival, and were shown to the characterful Mettingham room for our one night stay. It is an old building and the floors are a bit sloped and the stairs up to the rooms are very steep. The room is full of character, with exposed beams, and nicely decorated and furnished. There is a small seating area, and a useful folder of information provided. Everything was clean, although I thought the carpet was looking quite stained. The en suite bathroom was clean and had a decent over-bath shower (although fixed rather than removable); the toiletries were provided in large pump-bottles, not in small individual-use bottles.
The provision of bottled water in the room (as well as tea/coffee making) was a nice touch, and the wi-fi worked very well in the room.
We had an evening meal in the restaurant, which was quite busy (even on a weekday) and of a good standard.
The cooked breakfast was excellent – locally sources products, cooked to order, and everything on the plate was piping hot.
